Finding Nemo 3D Movie Review

The first time I saw the original Finding Nemo movie from Disney-Pixar, it was 2003, one year before I got married. There wasn’t much I remembered about the original movie, except for that there was some witty, adult humor centering around a child clownfish named Nemo who was separated from his father (Marlin). He doesn’t [...]

It’s been a great week for blogging – if you missed the announcement, I’m now a contributor to Apartment Therapy! Isn’t that exciting? I’m particularly chuffed because it means I have more opportunities to share the things I’m always stumbling across, without having to shove it all in and make it fit within Small for [...]

One thing I like most about conventions is the chance to find items that I had no idea they existed at all. One such item is this Leonardo Da Vinci action figure from Unimax.

This post is an announcement. Scroll down for newer posts. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about how I can generate more reviews for the site, and I’ve struck upon what I think is both a novel and old-fashioned solution. Taking photos has become the hardest part of working on this blog. There [...]

Pretty Much Every Actor In The World Is In Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln

I was going to PhotoShop a pic of Spielberg in a black Lincoln Navigator full of actors for the header of this post, but I was way too lazy.

But seriously, though, so many actors in this. Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Jackie Earle Haley, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, the list goes on. But the two dudes I’m most excited to see in this are David Strathairn who plays Dr. Rosen on SyFy’s Alphas and Adam Driver who is by far the best character on HBO’s Girls. If those two weren’t in the movie, I’d have no interest whatsoever in seeing it.

Lincoln — which will no doubt be full of epic camera sweeps, Spielberg face, and orchestral swells to trick you into feeling emotion — hits theaters November 16th.

So, S.H.MonsterArts King Ghidorah is…kinda big.

It’s September, which means Top Holiday Toys Lists are starting to come out. Can you believe it? Craziness. Background Little Brass Bird is “a Chicago based animated show which was inspired by an original plush toy line created in 2008 by Robin Poppert”. The open format of the show allows for other Chicago-area artists and bands to be included in the short films (we've seen Shawnimals on LBB). And watching the episodes is [...]

‘Avengers’ Meets ‘Battle Royale’ In ‘Avengers Arena’

This December, Marvel plays on America’s love for teen-on-teen murder with Avengers Arena from writer Dennis Hopeless (X-Men: Season One) and artist Kev Walker (Thunderbolts).

From MTV Geek:

Trapped on an isolated island, 16 superhuman young adults (including members of the Runaways, The Avengers Academy and Darkhawk) are given a chilling ultimatum by their demented captor: Fight or die…only one will walk out alive! Thus begins a primal battle that will test the skills, stamina and morals of each combatant. Welcome to Murder World, where the secrets are plenty, alliances are fleeting, and the key to victory might be rewriting the rules of the game. Who will survive?

“These kids were chosen carefully and with specific story beats in mind. We definitely plan on taking advantage of the broad personality spectrum we have in play,” explained Dennis Hopeless in an interview with Marvel.com. “Even the characters who die off early make their mark on the story. I didn’t throw anyone into the book as cannon fodder.”

Mutant teens sent onto an island to kill each other with their superpowers? I’m down. I just hope this doesn’t signal the beginning of a “Battle Royal EVERYTHING” trend where senseless teen violence gets constantly shoved down our throats while countless properties ride the hype train. Part of what made Battle Royale so great was the initial shock and horror of what the kids went through, but also the intimate human moments dealing with their relationships with each other before coming the island and the moral dilemmas that come along with being forced to murder your friends.

It’s the sort of concept that’s pretty easy to get desensitized to, so hopefully Marvel takes it in some sort of new direction other than the whole superpower thing.
