Takara Tomy readies an army of new Transformers Masterpiece figures
Takara Tomy isn't slowing down anytime soon when it comes to announcing new Masterpiece figures. In the past month they've added four more MPs to the line to join Beast Wars Optimus Primal later this year with our best looks this weekend at Tokyo Toy Show.
Takara Tomy started with an entirely new Inferno from the G1 series. He remains in scale in bot mode with the rest of the car figures, but won't be in scale in vehicle mode, much like Bumblebee. He comes with several additional parts intended to give him the looks of either the original '80s figure or his less detailed animation model plus some chromed alternatives. No release date or price has been given yet, but he'll probably be around the same price as Ironhide and Ratchet. We should have official images soon.
The second figure to be announced was Beast Wars Cheetor which we're seeing for the first time at Tokyo Toy Show. This unpainted prototype has exceeded many expectations by turning a skinny legged cheetah into a nice and bulky robot mode. Like Optimus Primal he'll also include several faces for both forms and a weapon similar to the one found on the original figure. It's still too early tell when he'll be released, but it should be by the end of the year.
Tokyo Toy Show itself got an exclusive announced only a few weeks before the show. MP-25L Loudpedal (named for the pedal on a piano, not a gas pedal on a car) is a redeco of MP-25 Tracks body with a new head similar to that of the original G1 figure and Road Rage's gun. The figure itself is based on a Diaclone black Corvette that was only available in Finland; how obscure is that? He should be available through third party dealers like BBTS and TFSource very soon for around US$90.
The final figure is Takara Tomy Mall's exclusive Thrust. Priced at ¥15,984 and due in late October he's a hefty remold of previous exclusive Ramjet with new wings and weapons. It's a shame these guys have been made exclusives, especially to a site that doesn't ship outside of Japan since they'd certainly be big sellers outside of Japan.
I've included the latest images of Optimus Primal from the Tokyo Toy Show in the gallery for good measure. This is possibly not the last figures we'll see this year as both Grapple (retool of Inferno) and Beast Wars Megatron are expected to be announced at some point soon.
