C2E2 2016: Metalsouls
Some toys were meant to be made of metal: Iron Man, Transformers, toy cars, etc. And then you have madmen like the folks at Metalsouls, who just make everything out of metal. Despite largely working with recycled scrap metal, these figures can be pretty convincing.
When you're near a booth like Metalsouls, it's pretty tough to just keep walking. The polished monochrome figures stand out against the stark white tablecloth, and you just have to poke and prod a bit. Nothing was behind a glass display case.
I dig the way the small scale figures take classic film characters and turn them into abstract art. But what struck me was how downright faithful their large scale figures were. Check out the Predator, the Big Daddy, Wall-E, and especially the T-800 endoskeleton. They're crazy accurate!
For pricing and ordering, go to the Metalsouls online shop. There you can also see some videos on how these things are made. Seems like you can go pretty far with scrap metal and a welder!

C2E2 2016: CreatuReplica
If Fox Mulder collected action figures, I think he'd love the CreatuReplica collection. CreatuReplica is a new (as in, just months old) outfit featuring toy designs by Jean St. Jean - a sculptor who also works with Diamond Select Toys.
The current series consists of four figures based on cryptids: the Sasquatch, the Yeti, the Rougarou, and the HorrorHound. They're all inspired, as you can guess, by folklore and just straight up insane stories. For the record, I would love to see a giant Loch Ness Monster figure and a creepy Slenderman figure.
I was able to look and play with these up close. To me they felt on par with a Play Arts Kai figure in terms of detailing and articulation, though they're a bit smaller. They seem to use a combination of smooth and clicky joints, and each figure comes with a nicely detailed display base.
These definitely fall under the "adult action figures" category as the level of detail and paint job are a step above what you'll usually find in this space. If you're interested, you can buy them from CreatuReplica directly.
