Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Plum

$

Plum aren't really the kind of figure maker which one keeps their eyes on. Their figures have been decent but never particularly outstanding but sometimes, that's enough. Afterall, they have made the second best Alisa figure out there! (The best is an ichiban kuji release).

But they have improved over time and Wonder Festival shows that they might be ready to step up their game. They've kept with the god eater line by showing off a prototype of Sakuya and even their Ryo-Ku-Bu bride figure looks pretty cool. But they also had some really out-there announcements like a figure(?) of Vic Viper from Gradius and Twinbee from Pop'n twinbee! Those should be worth keeping an eye out for. Their figure of Blanc from the recent spinoff game MegaTagMension Blanc vs Zombies looks rather nice too.

Who know? I don't think plum are ready to jump up and mingle with the big boys but their output quality has been steadily increasing. Here's hoping that they continue!

Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Arcadia

Arcadia's showing at Wonder Festival featured a whole lot of Katanagatari. If you've waited this long for Katanagatari figures, hopefully you like what you see.

These look like 3D printed prototypes, with the grainy finish and less than stellar paint jobs. According to MyFigureCollection the final products will be resin so... hopefully they'll look better. A lot better.

Outside of the Katanagatari stuff they only had a smattering of figures: some Shin Getter Robo and a pair of chibi-style figures from Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel.

Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Alphamax

Alphamax is usually all about girls with clothes falling off their bodies. Well they took it to a literal extent this WonFes with some of the figures from their SkyTube label.

I won't focus on the NSFW stuff but Amiami and Dengeki Hobby do have coverage. I actually rather like SkyTube, and the upcoming figures in this line are worth a look if you dig ecchi.

The less lewd but still risque Alphamax figures include a new Hatsune Miku design, a Sonico that doesn't look grotesquely stupid, Sonia Blanche from Shining Resonance (scheduled for this May), and Sora Kasugano from Yosuga no Sora.

One thing I did not expect to see was Transformers, much less a poseable Optimus Prime figure (one with oddly flexed abs I might add). Are you guys into that?

Wonder Festival 2016 Winter: Embrace Japan/Milestone

Man, Embrace Japan has really put out some lovely designs as of late. They're looking to continue that roll with the Diabolus Angelite figure shown at WonFes. Fun fact: this line of original designs has been titled Black Arts Keeper. There's even a manga!

As for licensed characters, Street Fighter is the name of the game. I especially want to draw attention to the mini busts featuring the continue screen portraits of the classic Street Fighter II characters. Brilliant!

The rest of Embrace Japan and Milestone's booth is largely NSFW but there are some pretty designs in there. Check the source links for photos!

Transformers Figure Subscription Service 5 Preview First Look

As promised some while back, the newest TFCC magazine issue contains a preview for the fifth iteration of the Transformers Figure Subscription Service, which was announced even before the fourth had all its production samples revealed. Radio Free Cybertron's John DeLuna has tweeted out a photo of the preview page, showing two of the upcoming figures. Unsurprisingly there's a reuse of the Oilmaster Pretender shell created for Botcon 2015's boxset, and a not-so outside the box reuse of Generations Arcee. Keep reading to see what they are!

Black Lipstick Gene, Wigs and Props

I was fooling around with Black Lipstick Gene yesterday. She got tired of the 1940's look and I had a modern wig just waiting for a bald head.

It's a Monique Gold wig (http://store.monique.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=monique&Category_Code=WIG-MGC&Product_Code=&Search=&Sort_By=disp_order&Per_Page=-1.)
The wig is called Jade #415 and it's priced at $19.  Gene wears size 4-5. It comes in 7 colors and 5 sizes.

I do not recommend them for someone who is used to hard cap wigs from Ilaria, Chewin, Patta and the like. You will find that these wigs have a lesser quality fiber and construction. They are not well-styled right out of the box. Their benefits are the lower price of $12-$27 each depending on size and style and they do have a stretch band inside so the fit is more flexible. They come in a very wide variety of colors and styles.

Be prepared to do some styling, perhaps with a hair product and pointy snips in order to get the look you want. I was not pleased with my results as I feel the top of the wig is too pouffy. I would have had to do some thinning.

If you're good at it - this is definitely a great way to go for quantity and choice.

The wonderful drafting table is a Tonner Tyler furniture item. The clip on lamp works. The drawer opens as does the top of the table which is held in an angled slant by a rod you pull up inside. The stool comes with the set.  Recently a nearly new set sold on eBay for $50.99. The seller also included the Design Essentials set which is adorable. Tonner furniture is perfectly scaled for our 16" dolls. It never looks too small.

The sweater Gene is wearing is a handmade product from Retros. The buttonholes are real working ones. I love this item. I purchased the jeans from Marlbe last year. It was a very small edition from Marcelo Jacobs.

The platform sneakers she is wearing are from Ficon. Sadly, I broke one of the zippers. These are fitted inside to support a fashion foot with a built-in wedge. I'd buy a replacement pair in a minute if I could find them.

Another item in this photo that I've used zillions of times is the CED folding screen. There are two in these photos. They are wood with three panels that depict scenes in Italy. The screens are two-sided making them incredibly useful and easy to customize if desired.  Folding screens are an essential tool for a quick photo set-up. They're also easy to make from foam core board.
