UPDATED: Combiner Wars Sky Lynx In Hand Photos Featuring Improvised Lynx Mode

$

From the 78dm.net forum, user xccain has shared two photos of Generations Sky Lynx, due as part of 2016's second Voyager assortment. These images give side on views of both the regular robot-beast mode, and an attempt at fulfilling the Hasbro design team's hint that the lynx mode could also be coaxed out of the design. This result seems more like a griffin, but it's a start down the path until more people get a chance to figure out the alternate transformation. Click through to see the mirrored photos. I Can Do Better - My Xmas Evergreen Arrangement Decoration

$

Back in November of 2011 I wrote a Linda's Blog post entitled "20 Years Later and Still As Good As New!" It was about the  BIG artifical wreaths I had bought 20 years before which were still as good as new and which we take out every Christmas to decorate the front of our house.

If you would like to read that post please CLICK HERE.

This year I decided that our farmer's porch area needed some Christmas decorations, too, So we went out on Black Friday, which we hate to do, to buy a fresh arrangement of pine and evergreen branches in a container that would be suitable for the farmer's porch.

I found a container and  arrangement that I thought might work for us and would be visible on the farmer's porch. We have a row of yews along the walkway to our farmer's porch that are about 2 1/2' feet tall so I knew I'd need to put my container on something so it would be seen.

The arrangement container we bought was black in color so we decided to use a plastic black container we had turned upside down on which to place the arrangement.

I also decided that the arranangement I had bought could use more height so I added red berry sprigs and gold painted bamboo to give the arrangement height. It came with one white painted pinecone so I added a trio of 3 Christmas color bulbs and another white painted pinecone for decoration.

I'm happy with the way the arrangement looks on the farmer's pocrh. It's bright and festive and compliments the wreaths on the front of the house. However, I wasn't happy with the price as I know I could have made an artificial arrangement that would last forever for half the price.

So, I decided that when the floral Christmas stems go on sale at Michael's or A.C. Moore that I'm going to buy some. At the end of the Christmas holiday season I'll remove the dried fresh branches from the arrangement and replace them with artifical evergreen branches. That way I'll already have my arrangement for the farmer's porch ready for next year's Christmas holiday decorating.

It won't be as good a buy as my artificial wreaths were, but it won't dry out and will last 20 or 30 or 40 more years. For sure it will outlive me!

When I put my artifical arragement together I'll try to create a tutorial for it so you can create an arrangement of your own. So, stay tuned for that.

Megahobby Expo 2015 Autumn: Alter

I'm afraid I can't tell you why Megahouse would think that it is autumn despite being a stones throw away from December but it's their event so they can call it whatever they like!

Interestingly, a few of the larger, non-goodsmile affiliated companies have decided to use this event to show off some new figures which we will be seeing for sale soon. Case in point, Alter!
At the Megahobby Expo, alter showed off a number of new figures in the pipeline and doubling down on Love Live!! figures as well! They showed off Rin, Kotori, Maki and Nozomi in Halloween themed costumes, which I'm sure will go down well with the legions of Love Live!! fans out there.

As for the completely new figures, Alter showed off a new figure of Charlotte and Laura from <IS> Infinite Stratos and a new figure of Gertrude Barkhorn from Strike Witches, just to show that the series is still alive (despite what many of us think or hope!). There was also a very impressive looking Saber Alter Dress form and Edna from Tales of Zestiria. She should look good next to the (kinda creepy looking) meebo by Kotobukiya!

There's also a placeholder for another Saber figure, this time in school uniform and also a notification of more Idolm@ster figures, this time from Cinderella Girls! Alter will also be collaborating with Megahouse again in their AlphaXomega line and visiting Gundam Wing with possible figures of Heero Yui and Relena Dorlin/Peacecraft.

Overall, I think Saber Alter has to be the most interesting new figure but I've never been a huge fan of Love Live! which makes up the bulk of the figures from Alter at this event. Anything here which suits your fancy?

Megahobby Expo 2015 Autumn: Megahouse

Given the name of the event, it's no surprise that Megahouse had one of the larger exhibitions on display and there were quite a variety of figure lines as well.

They continue to milk the childhood of 90s fans with more digimon figures. Wizardmon makes an appearance with Gatomon and we also get a rather large Garurumon as well. The other stalwart of 90s childhood, Pokémon, also gets some new figures. Misty and Ash were given some prototype figures but it was all about Team Rocket!
The P.O.P line of One piece figures and Dragonball are also still going strong with plenty of new releases and also new figures from the Satire/parody show, Bikini Warriors.

On the mecha side of things, Megahouse showed off their series of cars from the Cyber Formula GPX series and also announced a figure of Sugo Asuka from Cyber Formula GPX (as opposed to her later, older renditions). They're also continuing with the release of completed figures of the mecha from Aldnoah Zero as well as some Arhan mecha from Expelled from Paradise. There was also a section dedicated to a new line of figures called Desktop Army. These have been on display at previous events but I have to admit that I'm very curious about these but we're still waiting for release information on them...

I think that the pokémon and digimon figures will be very popular but what are our readers looking forward to?

Body Type: Poppy Parker
Quick Switch Feature: No
Skin tone: FR White
Hair Color: Brown
Eyelashes: Yes, Hand Applied

Poppy Parker is a 12-inch fully articulated vinyl fashion doll with rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. Poppy comes in a mod coat accented with lime green trim, a multi-color print shift dress with matching hat, and a two piece bright pink belted suit with apple green turtleneck. Mid calf boots, flats, earrings, lapel pin, and a white travel case with the IT Airways logo complete the ensemble. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

And here are some of the probable inspirations for the outfits - mainly the Branliff air hostess uniforms designed by Emilio Pucci ins the mid and late 60s. Pucci’s clear plastic helmets were called Rain Domes, and they were meant to keep those 60s hairstyles protected from the elements. However, the impracticality of the Rain Dome was imminently apparent. They cracked easily and were abandoned after one month, as there was no space in the overhead bins, or anywhere in the cabin, to store the large plastic bubbles. Pity we do not get one for Poppy. Braniff also enlisted the first lady of American shoe design, Beth Levine, the designer of Nancy Sinatra’s boots for “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’” publicity, to create both leather and plastic footwearfor the crew.

A Braniff 1966 Pucci uniform. From the collection of Cliff Muskiet www.uniformfreak.com

Please note that the doll and outfits pictured in these images are prototypes. Final production may vary slightly. The Andy Warhol Barbie: a new storm is brewing

$

Back in early November, a story appeared on WWD about the Ron Robinson deal with Mattel for an Andy Warhol/Barbie collection, exclusive to the Ron Robinson shops: the one in Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue and the flagship in Santa Monica. The collection has many items in small quantities, designed by various artists and inspired by Warhol and Barbie. The collection will become available in the shops on December 1st but pre-orders have begun from November 15th online. What interests this blog is of course the doll. It is a Platinum edition of 999 dolls but they are nowhere to be seen on the Robinson website. What is really strange though is that the doll surfaced on the Bloomingdale's website on the 18th of November. I do not know if it was possible for anyone to make a pre-order (I did read in Facebook that some people did but nothing concrete), but the site shows the doll unavailable. Having in mind that it is supposedly an exclusive for Rob Robinson, it looks even weirder. I suspect a new storm will hit Barbie Collector with this one.

Doll details:
Platinum Label collector's piece with commemorative box and certificate of authenticity
Set includes signature Warhol Barbie doll, stand, accessories, decorative paint set and canvas
Doll measures approx. 11.5" tall, box measures 13.5" x 12.5" x 2.5"
Plastic; accessories: acrylic/plastic/polyester
Hand wash or spot clean
Imported
Web ID: 1560278

There is no price mentioned. Fro mthe packaging I'm guessing it will be around $150. The sculpt is the Mackie sculpt, made to look like the iconic artist. To me it looks cheap and hastily made. The fact that it includes painting brushes and colors shows either how ignorant is the one who designed the set (Warhol never painted but silk-screened the polaroids he took to add colour and effects) or it was a company decision to make the doll look more "artistic" - i.e. "let the ignorant buyers know that Warhol was an artist, let us include some paintbrushes and colours". It is insulting to the collectors and mainly to the artist.

If you really want this one, get another Mackie Barbie cheaper, give her a razor cut and buy clothing and accessories to make the set yourselves. I bet one can find even a polaroid camera in scale from companies that make action figures - maybe even an older Barbie set. You can find the iconic Warhol Barbie portrait easily to print in scale too.
