Some of Funko's NYCC exclusives already available at Hot Topic
NYCC is barely underway but I've already found some of Funko's NYCC exclusives at my local Hot Topic.
When stopping at the mall, I was surprised to see Funko's Pop! Iron Throne, Pop! Patina-deco Cthulhu, and Pop! Skeleton Jack & Vampire Teddy pack on Hot Topic's front table... ironically THREE of the four figures I highlighted in my recent story.
While pricing may vary by location, my local store had the over-sized Pop! Throne at US$20 and the other two at US$15 each. Given that it was a BOGO-1/2 off sale as well, I only grabbed the Cthulhu and Iron Throne for now (although I'll likely grab one more Cthulhu and the Skeleton Jack pack when I next stop by).
The Iron Throne looks great but, unfortunately, it's geared to fit normal-sized Pop!s (which is great for *most* Game of Thrones Pop!s) since I would have otherwise just tossed Cthulhu on it to show off the two exclusives together.
The Patina Cthulhu is cool, but the paint apps vary wildly. Many of the ones I saw went very heavy on the bluish patina effect (like the one I purchased) while a few ones reserved the color more for the more recessed areas. For this reason, I will likely buy a second one with the more subdued deco.
Hopefully more of Funko's NYCC exclusives will trickle into retailers so all of us who weren't able to make it the con will be able to easily get our hands on them.

Come And Sample Pastry Chef Johnny Iuzzini’s Live Cooking Demo @Macy’s Del Amo Home Store
I love cooking. While I am not a master chef, or even would I consider myself a chef, I will always do my best to learn and experiment with new foods and techniques. One of the best ways to learn how to cook fresh foods at home is to visit and view a live cooking… [read more]

Unpainted LBW Link figma on display at NYCC
A Link Between Worlds (reviewed) has very quickly joined the list of my favorite Legend of Zelda games and, as such, I was happy to learn that he'd join the figma line... and even happier to see a photo of an unpainted prototype on display at NYCC!
The LBW Link prototype is... well, almost adorable in its current form. While the game's artwork had opted to give Link a more youthful appearance, the unpainted figma seems to amp up the cuteness (something that I'm more used to seeing with a Nendoroid). It's certainly an interesting design and I can't wait to see it painted.
Honestly, it looks like this one will turn out better than the Skyward Sword Link figma and will probably be my one must-buy figma for 2016 (or 2017 or whenever it will release... the sooner the better!).
[ A special thanks to Wilmer Tejada for the heads-up ]

you can knit without needles
I love to knit. It’s one of the most zen crafts I’ve ever done, and it really is the thing I turn to when I need to relax. Plus, I love that I can follow someone else’s vision and turn out amazing projects with a little less thought than my usual approach to making things. […]

Ain’t Nobody Laughing at Sideshow’s New Punisher Sixth Scale Figure
“They laugh at the law. But they don’t laugh at me.” Sideshow’s Marvel 1/6th scale collection is still a thing?!? It’s been over a year since Sideshow Collectibles announced Deadpool as the first figure in this new 12-inch collection, leaving many collectors (including myself) wondering whether or not this line will continue. However, it will […]

Hasbro officially announces Transformers Titans Return at NYCC
As expected we got some major reveals for the ongoing Transformers Generations figure line at New York Comic Con! What wasn't expected is that the title of the follow up to Combiner Wars is not Titan Wars, but rather Titans Return. The name indicates the return of massive Titan class city bots to the Transformers story line. More so it was revealed that Titans Return is in fact the second segment of an overarching story line called Prime Wars that will span five years. By the time Combiner Wars ends next year it will only have been in stores for about a year and a half. That leaves plenty of time left to explore Titans Return and whatever comes after.
We're also introduced to a new figure scale: Titan Masters. Fans of G1 will recognize names like Headmasters and Targetmasters, but Titan Masters will feature multiple forms, though primarily be capable of forming the heads of Basic, Voyager, and Leader class figures. A number of fan favorite figures are coming in the line, all made to interact with Titan Masters. Check out all of the announcements for Titans Return down below.
Titan Masters - Individually sold Titan Masters come with a vehicle or beast they can be combined with that have multiple forms as well as become weapons for the larger figures. In G1 all of these figures were the smaller 1988 Headmasters.
- Nightbeat - comes with a drill tank that turns into a jet
- Terri-Bull - comes with a jet that turns into a tank
- Crashbash (formerly Squeezeplay) - comes with a t-rex that turns into a dragon
- Loudmouth (formerly Siren) - comes with a hover car that turns into a tank
Legends - Like with Buzzsaw revealed back at BotCon these Legends are updates of the cassette tapes that triple-change into data devices and vehicles as well as be stored inside Leader class Blaster.
- Eject - Turns into a microtape recorder and tank
- Stripes - Tuns into a smart device and bomber jet
Deluxe - The return of two popular original Headmasters from G1
- Skullsmasher (formerly Skullcrusher) with Grax - changes from robot to crocodile
- Hardhead with Furos (formerly Duros) - changes from robot to tank
Voyager - Figures at this scale and Leader class use helmets built into the bots to help keep the Titan Masters in scale. All Voyagers are also Triplechangers.
- Galvatron with Nucleon - changes into canon and spacecraft
- Sentinel Prime with Infinitus - changes into space shuttle and train
Leader - Also triple change, including a city mode.
- Blaster with Twin Cast - changes into a boombox and city
Pretty impressive lineup for a series that is wont be out until mid 2016. Hasbro didn't offer official images of Sentinel Prime, but shots from the presentation can be found here. There are other figures that were shown as silhouetted head shots at Hasbro's panel that have had a great deal of speculation placed on them. One that seems very likely is a shadow that looks like the long rumored Leader class Powermaster Optimus Prime. Also not shown is Titan Fortress Maximus, but references to him were made. I'm sure we'll see a lot more at Toy Fair in February and BotCon in April.

Tamashii Nations comes out of its shell! Cartoon TMNT join SH Figuarts line
Say whaaaaaaa? Bandai may have just shocked the world (just a little) by adding the classic cartoon versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the S.H. Figuarts line.
Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo were spotted at the Bluefin Tamashii Nations booth at NYCC. While Bandai of Japan is no stranger when it comes to adapting Western properties into its figure lines (having done Star Wars, King Kong, and others) and TMNT is no stranger when it comes to Japanese figure lines (having already appeared in Kaiyodo's Revoltech line), the news was still a little surprising.
While I'm not loving the facial expressions, the head sculpts for these definitely have more of a cartoon vibe than the Playmates TMNT Classics line (which instead drew inspiration from the original toyline). On the plus side, these definitely look to balance better than the Playmates ones!
Other than the faces, the figures look great. These will most likely wind up being the definitive cartoon TMNT figures for quite some time.
I'm not sure if I'll buy the full set, but I'm definitely leaning towards at least grabbing the Raphael who looks to be the best of the bunch by far, even if he's usually my fourth favorite Ninja Turtle.
