NicoNico Super Kaigi: AccelWorld figmas, Nendoroids screenshot

Fans of AccelWorld should be happy with what Good Smile brought to NicoNico Super Kaigi, because there were a few little surprises for them. Namely, on the Nendoroid front, we saw Kuroyukihime in splendid color, and she'll come with Haru's pig avatar as an accessory. She does look very pretty with those reds and purples accenting her black dress, no?

On the figma front, we have Silver Crow and Black Lotus in color, and Kuroyukihime in prototype form. I'm very curious to see just how much flexibility Kuroyukihime is going to have with those wings and dress of hers.

It's easy to go ape over Steiff's wonderful monkeys, especially their distinctive and delightful baboons!  Take a look at this note from a reader, who had the recent good fortune of welcoming a rather distinctive Steiff primate to his collection.  Rod from Oregon writes...

    "Steiffgal,

I’ve recently acquired this Steiff “Coco” the baboon, from the estate of a collector of vintage toys. I have been unable to find this larger (sitting 10” tall) Coco anywhere on the Internet.

If you can share any information on rarity or value, I’d greatly appreciate your time.

I’ve included several pictures so you can evaluate condition. It’s in rough condition but still has the original tag. I can tell it’s stuffed with straw because it’s visible through some holes in the right hand.

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Rod"

It's easy to go loco over this Steiff Coco! What we have here is Steiff’s Pavian Coco or Coco Baboon. In good condition, this mighty monkey is one of them most sought after early post war items in the Steiff catalog. Coco is 35 cm, sitting, five ways jointed, and made from very thick silver mohair. He has a long bendable tail and very realistic grey felt hands and feet – with each toe and finger clearly defined. Like his distant cousin Jocko the Chimpanzee, Coco has a peach colored felt face and ears, as well as expressive deep-set eyes in felt pockets. However, unlike Jocko, Coco has a huge, expressive, oversized, open felt mouth.  Overall, this Coco was produced from 1951 through 1958 and then again in 1961.  The red imprinted chest tag on Rod's Coco - pictured above - suggests that he was made in the very early 1950's.

Now for a holler about Coco's hair collar.  Each 35 cm Coco that left the Steiff factory in Giengen, Germany, had a remarkable hair collar.  This fabulous accessory was made from mohair strands that were about 5 inches long! These tended to get a bit unruly (much like Steiffgal's ringlets once in awhile) and needed somewhat regular attention to keep them presentable. When Steiffgal got her Coco (pictured here on the left) at the Festival of Steiff back in 2005, it took her about two hours to smooth out and de-tangle his hair collar.   But doesn't he look so handsome as a result?!

Now for the question that drives Steiffgal bananas - his value.  As always, Steiffgal is not a formal appraiser and sincerely believes that something is worth what someone will pay.  This particular Steiff design was made for a relatively short time in a period - the 1950's - that is becoming more and more interesting to collectors.  However, the condition of Rod's particular Coco is only fair, given his overall presentation, bare mohair patches, felt challenged hands, and lack of his traditional hair collar.  Given all of the above, Steiffgal's best guesstimate is that he values in the $75 to $150 range.  If he were in very good to excellent condition, with a hair collar, he may value in the $250 to $500+ range.

Steiffgal hopes this discussion of Rod's Coco has been a hair-raising experience for you.

NicoNico Super Kaigi: Figma T-ELOS is picking a fight! screenshot

I don't know about you but this sudden interest in T-ELOS from Xenosaga Episode 3 has come out of left field! It has been years since the game has been released and she even made an appearance in the Endless frontier games on the Nintendo DS but aside from a couple of figures from Alter, we haven't seen anything for her.

Now, not only are we getting a 1/4 scale kit from Volks but also a figma to go toe to toe with figma KOS-MOS! can you say SWEET!!!? I guess that 3DS crossover game, project X zone, is giving makers a few ideas for new figures!

Actually, I wasn't that big a fan of T-ELOS. My favourite design was always KOS-MOS ver 1, followed by Ver 4, then ver 3 and then T-ELOS. Also, the figma KOS-MOS didn't impress me as much as I thought it would (I much prefer the AlMecha version, barring a couple of faults, mostly with the hair) But my love for the series which was cut short will see me getting T-ELOS for sure.

NicoNico Super Kaigi: Say hi to colored Nendoroid Gakupo screenshot

Previously, we'd gotten to see the prototype for Nendoroid Gakupo Kamui, which is fine and dandy, but you can never tell how they look until they're really colored. Now, after NicoNico Super Kaigi, we have that information. As you can see above, Good Smile's kept the coloring on Gakupo faithful to the original character design which means lots of purple everywhere, from Gakupo's long ponytail to the fringes of his jinbaori (the type of kimono he is wearing). And of course, he has his katana!

Gakupo is set for a September release, which means, knowing the pre-order cycle on Nendoroids, we should be seeing Gakupo pre-orders in the next few weeks, as other September releases are already available for such things.

NicoNico Super Kaigi: Akikoloid-chan and Lawson's booth screenshot

Good Smile wasn't the only company at NicoNico Super Kaigi, of course. Japanese convenience store chain Lawson was there, and perhaps most importantly for the folks here at Tomopop, they had a figure of their Vocaloid-ized mascot, Akikoloid-chan. Created for the VocaLawson campaign late last year, Akikoloid-chan was in a glass case along with many of the other prizes from the campaign ... except the figure was not a prize last year.

Is this, perhaps, some sort of hint at a second campaign? Is she a one-off made just for Lawson to take to events? I haven't been able to find out the answer yet, but I'll keep digging to see if I can find anything out. In the meanwhile, check out Akikoloid-chan in figure form and some adorable Madoka x Lawson cutouts in the gallery!

NicoNico Super Kaigi: Dog Days' Ricotta Elmar Nendoroid screenshot

In an interesting twist of fate, the Biscotti Republic's chief researcher and lover of tiny machines, Ricotta Elmar of Dog Days, has herself been transformed into a small toy. A Nendoroid, to be precise. While she isn't painted yet, you can already get a feel for the detail in the figure, with the pleats in her skirt and the ribbing and buttons on her top. Ricotta's friendly personality shines through with the happy expression on her face. If the Nendoroid looks this good already, I can't wait to see what she'll look like painted!

Nendoroid Ricotta Elmar has no set release date. Any fans of the anime interested in this dog-eared prodigy?

By Gary Shelton, Times sports columnist Saturday, April 28, 2012 TAMPA It is time for the marketing experts to go to work. It is time for an infomercial and a pitchman. Maybe a catchy slogan. Why, the Bucs are new and improved. They will go faster, they will last longer and their games will leave you with a minty aftertaste. They have been repacked and redesigned, and they would like it very ...

This year's equivalent to 2010's 3A Beijing WWR Squares at the weekend's Re-Venture show, is Popbot's Kitties from 3A Toys. Made larger than life and in multiple colorways, I really enjoyed the collar-and-tie aspect of the figurine! Now, it would be interesting to see these figures being purchased by collectors and displayed around the world, ala Squares, it would be a sweet-sight indeed! FYI:

P-Body and Atlas from VALVE's Portal 2 spotted on display at the weekend's Re-Venture event (I first posted the pic HERE). Shown here are unpainted prototypes, and they look splendid! As accurate to their original forms (not including the cross-over Square posted earlier) as their video-game counter-parts (see below image), this is perhaps an extremely interesting release to come, and a
