BotCon 2015: Hasbro plans big for Combiner Wars
This past weekend at BotCon 2015 Hasbro at long last revealed a first look at many figures we knew were coming, but have been eagerly awaiting a chance to see. Among them are eight classic Autobot cars reimagined as combiner limbs, a slightly remolded Optimus Prime, the Combaticons, and a pair of Leader class Thundercracker repaints. But what really came out of nowhere is a new Voyager Sky Lynx figure that can act as a combiner body! Details down below as we dive headlong into the 2016 lineup!

Having four actual new molds out of all those figures is a little disappointing, but for the most part they look good. When some of these names first came about as rumors people speculated on which molds would be used and for the most part they were correct. Some of the Autobot cars like Wheeljack and Hound look pretty good and I'm glad that they didn't do simple repaints aside from Smokescreen, but that one is forgivable.
Not so forgivable is the Combaticons getting two straight repaints with no remolding at all. Vortex works somewhat since Alpha Bravo already looked like Vortex, but some changes would have been nice for the third use of the mold. Even worse is Blastoff going from a space shuttle to a jet, and a straight repaint of Quickslinger who looks absolutely nothing like Blastoff, not even a little. I could forgive Blastoff being a jet or a spy drone being a military team, but to not give him an appropriate head? That's being lazy.
But OMG! I can't wait for Sky Lynx! I've been hoping for a new figure for a long time and we're finally getting one. Now, I wish he was a leader class and that his two portions could be separated like the original, but as a combiner with a cat head I'm absolutely fine with this.
Hasbro will have more in a few short weeks at SDCC so look forward to it!
