Play Arts Kai enlists Darth Maul as its newest Star Wars Variant release
I was not that thrilled with the Variant Play Arts Kai Stormtrooper. Vader was too edgy for my tastes while Boba Fett had my attention. As Square-Enix moves to the next entry to the line, I'm completely down for their Darth Maul.
The Sith Lord is one of the few highlights of Episode 1, and for me, the Star Wars PAK Variant line-up. It's not too different, but just enough where it grabs me. I've always liked the design of Darth Maul, and this has me wanting it pretty badly. For once, I'm actually really enthusiastic about how this will turn out. They can do something really good here.
As for accessories, it's not too much, but just what you need. You'll get 3 sets of hands and a pair of lightsabers in their combined and separated forms.This is a good job at giving your own take on something, it's almost perfect but...
Now, I have one slight problem with this: the price. ¥14,040 retail yen. That's just over $115 in USD at the current exchange rate. Thankfully, these days aren't those of exchange terror that we saw in 2012, and with website sales, it comes down to the $70-80 range plus shipping. Pre-orders are available now for its release in August.

Hobby Round rises and throws in a few surprises!
Hobby Round has grown considerably since it started up six years ago but even with the increased showing from the garage kit makers and other companies, it is still very much the Volks show so it makes sense that Volks use it to show their current and future items and the future looks rather bright!
This time, we get a full colour look (both painted and unpainted) at their next entry in the 1/4 scale line of kits in the form of Selvaria Bles from Valkyria Chronicles. We last saw near final form at Wonder Festival but this time, we get to see how she looks like straight out of the box (so to speak) and we also get a price tag... ¥50,000!! Well, she is 1/4 scale and compared to other kits in the same scale, it's not so bad (T-ELOS, KOS-MOS I'm looking at you!!). Still, that will definitely leave a mark on your bank balance!
Elsewhere, we get an unpainted prototype of the FoNewearl kit from Phantasy Star Online 2. This was also the basis for one of the costume modules for Hatsune Miku on Project Diva f so you don't need to have played the game to possibly recognize it! Finally, from out of nowhere, Volks also showed off a Saber Extra kit from Fate/Extra. I don't think anyone saw that coming. They certainly didn't advertise it beforehand!
That was pretty much it for the new items, thought they did display many of their kits which are currently on sale as well as tease new kits for Girls und Panzer, Fate/kaleid liner Prism Illya (chloe) and even more Love Live kits!
A part of me really wants to jump in and get the Selvaria kit immediately but with Dollfie Dream Sheryl Nome coming later this year, I don't think I can stretch to 2 items at such high prices, so Selvaria will have to wait. Is anyone liking the kits enough to jump in and take a shot at making one?
