Integrity Toys May 2015 release part 1: Katy Keene collection
Later then every other year, Integrity Toys unveiled four new collections of dolls this past weekend to the members of W Club through a webinar presentation. The event was not without its problems; many people, including me, were not able to see the photo slides of the dolls, were instructed to log out and back in again which resulted for many in a message saying the webinar is full. That meant no live presentation - we had to rely instead on other members that posted screen caps on the club forum. The company apologised profusely and promised to take the matter up with the software maker. I am not too familiar with the mechanics behind such presentations but I guess that when you organize such a large, worldwide event on-line, things can go bad really fast and also it is good to have immediate access to IT people supporting the event so that they can fix such problems in real time. The dolls are available to pre-order now so get in touch with the dealers from the IT list ASAP.
The collections will be presented on separate posts here in the blog, with a fifth one dedicated to the event doll. Let's start with the first group presented, which is a new brand for Integrity Toys: the Katy Keene collection. These are dolls based on the iconic comic book character Katy Keene and her fashionable friends from Archie Comics. David Buttry presented this collection and said they were inspired by the comics and the related paper dolls produced throughout the years. I was very thrilled to see these incredible fashions and gorgeous faces until I saw that all dolls have Color Infusion bodies. This means that they cannot share fashions and shoes with most of my other dolls. I also think that this is the wrong type of body for this era. I believe that the dolls would look better with either the previous Fashion Royalty body (the tall one with the large bust) or the Victoire body, so that they could exchange fashions and accessories with her, since their eras match. I do not know the reasoning behind the body choice but it made me not order any doll. Otherwise, they look amazing. The detail in the clothing is fantastic and the face paints and hairdos are perfection. On to the dolls:
So who is Katy Keene? A character created by Bill Woggon, she has appeared in several comic book series published by Archie Comics since 1945. She is a model/actress/singer known as America's Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions. The readers were encouraged to submit original drawings of outfits and accessories for her and her friends to wear, as well as designs for cars, homes, interiors, etc. These designs were used in the comics with credit given to published submissions. Many issues featured paper dolls of Katy in various costumes. After a 20 year hiatus from the 60s to the 80s, the character was revived, was retired again in the early 90s and re-introduced in 2005 as a high school student. I am glad I am not alone in noticing an eerie resemblance of Katy Keene and Katy Perry. Writer Donna Dickens of Hitfix.com wrote an article in April 2014, suggesting pop star Katy Perry had based her entire fashion persona on the character. The story generated enough Internet buzz that Perry actually issued a statement to Rolling Stone Magazine saying she in fact did not base anything about herself on Keene, although jokingly acknowledged the coincidences. Well, sorry Ms. Perry but the resemblance is too strong to have me convinced. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Integrity Toys May 2015 release part 2: FR 16 collection
Last year the FR 16 line got a major revamp that paid of in an exciting way. Not only it had a new face/character in Hanne Erikson (that proved to be quite successful) but also got people interested again in the series after some ho-hum releases that did not quite live up to its status as Avantguard replacements. This year the dolls are again incredible and one of them takes the whole collection one step further. But more below. Vaughn Sawyer worked wonders with the collection and also said that they are trying out an kind-of-airbrushed effect on the eye-shadow. They look terrific. As last year, there is again one Anais, two Elsa Lin and two Hanne Erikson dolls.

This is easily the best FR 16 doll ever released, reminding me so much of the Avantguards (but more refined) and also a tamed version of Sybarites. Integrity Toys May 2015 release part 3: Poppy Parker "The Model Scene" collection
Poppy Parker probably is the big seller of all Integrity Toys lines, surpassing even Fashion Royalty in covetability and secondary market prices. This was again proven with the release of this year's line, named "The Model Scene": at least one of the dolls was sold out on pre-orders within the first night after the webinar and probably more of the collection followed into the following day. Only hope for those not having early access to release information would be dealers that do not take pre-orders but put their dolls on their websites as soon as the confidentiality period is over and sell on a first-come, first-served basis. David Buttry was inspired this year from the model scene of the mid-to-late 60s and so had the opportunity to give the dolls a wide variety of looks. On the other hand, the dominant character was Poppy Parker (she is the high seller after all) with only one Darla and one new male character to complete the collection. One of the Poppy dolls will be available from IT Direct - so no dealer has that one for pre-order.

This is one of my favourites and I am getting her.Poppy models a long blue floral chiffon maxi dress with a blue ribbon choker, blue faux leather shoes, small silver hoop earrings and silver bangle bracelets. I would have preferred one of the more extreme geometric patterns that were usual on this type of flowing dress but the bold colours more than make up for the (dreaded) floral. This one is completely out there. While I like the overall design of the outfit, her face and hair do (beehive Jeannie ponytail as David described it) are not what I'd do with this - maybe I'd have opted for one of those huge complicated multi-layered up-dos with braids, fat curls and fake ponytails incorporated. And definitely have her with dark hair. I must applaud the daring look though, it captures the era perfectly. There is always that one doll in every collection that will be the talk of the town; become the most coveted one and disappear off the shelves in a matter of minutes. In this collection, Midas TOuch proves her name right - she was sold out in almost every dealer the night after the presentation (except the ones that put up their dolls for sale today). I tried but could not get one - she has a smaller edition size, which of course did not help. The dress looks like a golden remake of the Happening Poppy silver one and, frankly, India Poppy is much more nuanced and beautiful. But you know how things are. First AA Poppy was bound to be a success, which makes me wonder about the edition size logic. I'd get it (but not condone it) for Darla or another character, but not here. She wears a gold sequin mini dress with metallic gold organza collar, lace up gladiator sandals (which I adore), large gold disc earrings, gold cuffs with gold bangle bracelets. With a much better looking similarly styled wedding dress as part of the Funny Face collection, I wonder why this one follows in the same form and general idea. There were so many different styles of wedding outfits in that era that we could have had something truly unique here. The doll has the Hungarian skin-tone, which is like a tan, lighter than Latina. Wild Thing Poppy had this skin tone as well and The Camera Loves Her Poppy in this collection does too. Poppy wears a white satin wedding dress with white dotted tulle overlay and a tulle wedding veil with large bow detail. Integrity Toys May 2015 release part 4: Fashion Royalty collection
The last line presented by Integrity Toys was none other than the battleship of the company, the Fashion Royalty line. This year Jason Wu wanted the design team to start with the ladies who lunch as an inspiration: the rich socialites of the 60s that met in the famous restaurants of the era and were very elegantly and minimally dressed during the day but went all out flamboyant at night. The collection comes out along those lines, with elegant and minimal day-wear, very chic and with a retro whiff, that also includes some more eccentric evening wear. Apart from characters picked from the core 8, the line up has Isha and Tatyana. Isha has not been in a normal collection for ages (since 2011 if I remember correctly) and Tatyana was last seen being part of the final FR2 collection. I liked this line so much I ended up pre-ordering five of the dolls.Let's see the dolls:

This is a winner - it seems that the success of the Edge Vanessa informs the look of this doll too - but in a totally different outfit. The mole reminds me of Cindy Crawford. Great outfit but I do not get the $10 price difference from the previous dolls - is it the coat? If so, why then is Shades of Grey Hanne at the same price level with the other dolls of her line? Vanessa wears a black and white belted glen check coat and a tone on tone glen check fitted skirt with black faux leather waistband and an anthracite demi sleeve satin shirt. I was certain that Elise in this collection would be a red head. With the exception of the limited Montaigne Market, it has been a while since we had one and IT delivered. I really like her - both doll and outfit are gorgeous. The cut of the dress looks like the one Splendid Jordan was wearing a few years back. The bag looks like a Hermes Kelly miniature. Her lipstick shade might be a bit problematic with that red hair but we will see when she comes home. Again this one is $10 more expensive than the rest of the line. Elise is in a camel shawl neckline cocoon coat, black leather designer belt and printed cotton/spandex sheath dress. This will be my second Tatyana doll - she's absolutely amazing. Totally different than her previous incarnations, looking like a cross between Elise and Dasha. Love her colouring and her dress is fantastic - if the production doll has the same draping it will be great. She could have had a more elaborate hair do though, I am getting bored with all the ponytails, especially in evening dressed dolls. Tatyana is in a navy blue faille gown with "caviar" beading detail on the bodice. She adds some edge to her look by wearing a dotted tulle veil, dotted lace gloves and black strappy pumps. Integrity Toys May 2015 release part 5: the event doll
Each time Integrity Toys makes an on-line presentation, they include an event doll, available for all attendees (i.e. W Club Members) to purchase. This is a doll made in an edition that's determined from the number of the people that order the doll. It is usually an Agnes doll but, since this year Agnes was one of the upgrade W Club dolls, the only core-8 character not represented so far was Veronique. And as this year marks the 10th W Club anniversary and the 20th Integrity Toys anniversary, it seemed appropriate that this iconic character would be honoured with this special release.

If this is considered a royal treatment, I'd better remain a pleb. This is the most boring gift set since that poor Deceptively Yours Kyori back in 2010. Not only is the gown a bad reinterpretation of the Escapism Elise one, her coat is shapeless (or at least if photographs this way) and she has the minimum accessories for a big gift set. Last year's Agnes had three bracelets, sunglasses, two pairs of shoes and a hat even though she had only two outfits (if you think of the teddy as the third outfit for Veronique).So excuse me but I do not see anything special or elaborate in this gift set other than the hiked up price - it's more expensive than the Funny Face gift sets which had three outfits with more accessories plus a license fee on them. Compared to the rest of the collection, this one seems to be an afterthought, hastily brought together to be included in the event.
Her face is gorgeous and if I find a nude one in the secondary market for cheap, I might get her as I do not have a blonde Vero. The cream skin tone (Elise is also in it this year) is the one that was used for the FR2 dolls - so it is the original skin tone of Elise and Dasha.
