This fall will mark the 20th anniversary of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV anime series which first premiered in October of 1995. In celebration of this major milestone the original TV series and movies are being remastered in full HD on Blu-ray (as well as DVD) for the first time ever in Japan. But is just re-releasing the anime alone enough? The powers that be don't seem to think so, that's why they're doing nearly two dozen exclusive releases for various Japanese retailers. But the one that's getting the most attention is this little onyx gem.
Amazon Japan will be getting an exclusive black repaint of Revoltech Mini Danboard from Yotsuba&! for release with their BD and DVD bundles. The figure features red light up eyes and the marking for Seele 01 on its chest. This will probably be the most expensive way to get a Danboard with the BD release selling for ¥41,040 (about US$343) and the DVD set going for ¥19,440 (around US$162). Both will be released on August 26.
I haven't quite figure out what Evangelion and Yotsuba&! have in common, but Danboard sure does look good in black! And hey, it's not another variant of an actual Revoltech Eva.

Back in January the ol' Transformers rumor mill claimed to know the next three Masterpiece figures coming to Japan. The first was said to be MP-25 Tracks which turned out to be true. The second was long shot MP-26 Road Rage which I'm sure you've figured out turned out to be true as well. Sounds like someone knew what they were talking about. Things have been moving pretty quickly as we're already getting our first look at Road Rage in color.
Road Rage has a fairly brief history in the Transformers universe. Her first G1 figure came in 2002 as an e-HOBBY exclusive repaint of the then-recently released Tracks reissue based on an unused Diaclone deco. Then 10 years later at BotCon 2012 the character resurfaced as a repaint of the Turbo Tracks figure from the Reveal the Shield subline. In between there she also made a cameo in a Transformers Collectors Club comic based on Transformers Animated.
So here we are in 2015 and Road Rage is getting a new figure, this time not an exclusive. Heck, she isn't even a straight repaint. This version of Road Rage is a heavy remold of MP-25 Tracks with some rounded off body features to make her appear more feminine. The colors are interesting as the blue is very dark, separating it from the all black of the G1 figure and the bright blue of the BotCon figure. If anything the colors and their layout are all very reminiscent to that Animated cameo.
Japanese retailers haven't started taking pre-orders, but places like TFSource and Big Bad Toy Store, to whom we can thank for the images, are taking pre-orders. It appears she'll be available in October and include a new gun based on the original figure, a mini Twincast boombox (repainted from Track's Blaster mini figure) and a silver thing that people have identified as the gun for Track's flight mode from the cartoon. No word on if the flight stand is included. Japanese retailers should have Road Rage up sometime next week, likely at the same price as Tracks, ¥7,500.
So, that rumor list is now two-for-three. Sounds like we're well on our way to getting MP-27 Ironhide in the winter!

Amid other Botcon-related happenings today, this almost went unnoticed. We've got our first look at the packaging design for the convention exclusive box set, "Cybertron: Most Wanted". With the toys having been revealed over the course of the last several weeks, this was the last part of the set to be shown off, and this year the box is styled like a desk, complete with keys, pen, and a cup of Pepto Bismol energon in the corner, sure to leave unsightly rings behind. New in tonight, we've got a confirmed sighting of the Deluxe Protectobots from Combiner Wars wave 3, following the recent discovery of Legends in stores. This sighting was made at a Target in Fremont, California by cdavid3, who's provided a photo of the find. Hopefully these will be spreading out across the country pretty quick so we can all get hands on these very soon! Keep reading to check out the mirrored sighting photo.
