Two original TFs get WTF repaints from Hasbro
Some things are beyond explanation. Fans of the clunky original Transformers Generation 1 figures have been wanting to see Hasbro give Blitzwing and Astrotrain a proper reissue for years now. We knew the molds were still good because Takara used them back in 2004 and 2005 for their Transformers Collection line of reissues. Hasbro has since released reissues of Astrotrain in 2005 and 2012, but in the original Japanese market black and white figure colors, not the gray and purple cartoon colors (or even Hasbro's original white and purple) like fans have always wanted and Japan eventually got. Hasbro never got around to reissuing Blitzwing making his only release the original 1985 release.
So when rumor first went around of a Blitzwing and Astrotrain reissue coming as a Platinum Edition box set surely we were getting the pair the way fans have always wanted them, right?
Nope.
Instead we're getting garish new colors like something straight out of Generation 2. It's hard to explain how Hasbro came up with these colors when recent box sets featuring the original Insecticons and the Seeker Jet 'coneheads' have been pretty true to the originals. Astrotrain is now in a strange white, orange, and purple color scheme while Blitzwing is red, beige, and purple. One theory is that Astrotrain is inexplicably in the colors of Robots in Disguise 2000 character Movor and Blitzwing is based on G1 Duocon character Flywheels. The colors are close, but they're also off enough that it could just be a coincidence.
Apparently these guys will be showing up at Toys R Us eventually. Unfortunately with this it brings into question what type of release the previously announced reissues of Trypticon, Blaster, and Perceptor will get. Time will tell.

Hasbro goes large with oversized simplified Transformers
So, out of no where, we got our first look at some new simplified Transformers from Hasbro. Normally I'd just shrug these off and hope they don't take up too much space, but these are actually pretty interesting. The line appears to be going by the name of "Cyber Series", but unlike other simplified Transformers like the Titan series, these both Transform and feature full articulation through what appears to be ball joints.
It appears they'll come in two size classes. First is the seven inch assortment featuring Megatron, Grimlock, and Bumblebee. These are all new molds, though Bee appears to be a based on the much smaller Transformers Prime Legion class figure. Grimlock is strangely in movie colors, but in the right colors could make a decent G1 Grimlock. Megatron turns into a futuristic/Cybertronic tank and seems to be based on a modified green tank Legion class Megatron figure. I like Megatron and would consider getting Grimlock, especially if he appeared in G1 colors, but I'm going to pass on Bee.
But this wasn't enough for Hasbro so they've also started an 11 inch line featuring Optimus Prime and another Bumblebee. Optimus shares his transformation with Ultimate Beast Hunters Optimus Prime, at roughly the same height, but much better executed. I'm a little concerned about how the truck hood looks on his back, but he's already better than Age of Extinction Leader class Prime. Bumblebee more or less has a unique transformation and looks much better than the smaller seven inch figure. None of the figures in the Cyber series are based on existing character designs, though it seems they'll be sold as Generations figures. Price-wise we're left with question marks, same with the release date, but we'll probably get some info soon.
Hasbro also has some new Titans on the way for the simple, non-transforming line (not to be confused with Titan class Generations figures) based on Robots in Disguise 2015. The six inch line is adding Steeljaw and Sideswipe while the 12 inch line adds Sideswipe and Bumblebee. Sideswipe is starting to look like the new Bumblebee for RID.

give your favorite littles a new wardrobe
When I was pregnant with Birdie, I was obsessed with knitting her as many things as I could before she arrived. It was the best way I could think of to show my love for her when I had no other way except for hugging my own belly. Now, of course, if I have time […]
