The History Of Faceless Dolls - Updated February 2015 - Part XVII - Faceless Dolls of Francoise Bosteels
According to her blog she was trained as a nurse and joined the Sisters of the Divine Savior in France. She went to India in 1974 to work with the village people in the South Tamil Nadu villages, which is where her inspiration for her beautiful faceless dolls developed.
Her faceless dolls are just astonishing. In looking at them you can feel the beauty of the doll and the complex life of the village people and their stories that she is trying to convey.
Her blog contains a "Process" page which describes and shows how she creates her art dolls and how, in particular, she created the art doll shown in the picture on the left.
According to her "Process" page, "The materials I use are ordinary: a variety of colourful cloth called feutre; raphia (strong paper ribbons); pipe-cleaners; cotton balls for heads; wool; thread and discarded bobbins; banana and coconut fibre; palm leaves; bamboo; pieces of wood; small boxes and similar throw-away items. Gold and silver threads make a variety of jewellery. Sometimes I make use of small ready-made toys or art pieces such as a sewing machine or a harp. Tiny props used to create an environment have a story on their own. Thread and gum hold the figure together."
Francoise has created the following 3 books - all illustrated with fantastic photographs of her art dolls:
The Dolls Speak
Through the Needle’s Eye
Human Icons, Sacred Stories
Francoise exhibits her art dolls all over the world.
I hope you get a chance to view Francoise Bosteels, Iconic Dolls, Sacred Art blog and see her beautiful faceless doll creations.

The largest collection of world dolls I found was Carole's from World Costume Doll. She has been collecting dolls since 1957 and has information on and pictures of the 1900 dolls in her collection. The dolls are all part of Carole's private collection and not for sale.
Most of the dolls in her collection have faces, but there were several that didn't. It is an incredible collection to see. If you would like to view her World Costume Doll collection please click here.

spring dresses: fancy enough for everyday
Do you have a daughter who wants to pull out ALL the fashion stops at rather random moments? One day Birdie is fine with me picking out everything she wears, and the next she has very specific ideas. It’s fascinating to see her coming into her own (and yes, a little frustrating when it happens […]

#BATMAN Reference Book - GOTHAM CITY MOTOR MUSEUM: A Collector's Guide To 1/43 Scale CORGI BATMOBILES
Here's an interesting book I came across recently that looks like it's a pretty cool reference guide for Batman Toy Collectors who love the 1/43 Scale Diecast Batmobile Cars that were made by Corgi Toys awhile back. Do you remember these?
They were insanely great & I totally loved them. Well, I still do, maybe even a little bit more now. I remember, around the time these all came out (2004 to 2008), that my personal life was in complete turmoil and I could not afford to get them all and I wanted them ALL oh so bad. I do plan to slowly collect them over the next few years. They're really awesome!
Anyways, BLURB has published a book that is a guide to these amazing toys. It measures about 8' X 10' with 72 full-color pages. It comes in both Hardback (approx. $35) and Softback ($21) versions.
Now, to be honest, I have not seen the book in real-life so I'm not exactly sure how the quality is but if you CLICK HERE you can see a 15-page Preview and get some ordering information.
Now Here’s a Furniture Set That You’ll Actually Want the Kids to Draw On
You know as well as I do, that kids have the most amazing imaginations. Give them a cardboard box and they’ll turn it into a spaceship or a magical castle. Give them coloring pens and free reign to get creative and they’ll draw a beautiful mural… all over your freshly hung vintage wallpaper. Ouch! Not […]

Creepy stuff I've found on ebay: Giant-sized Renamon and other stuffed... things
Anybody who's used ebay for any length of time knows that there's a lot of weird stuff on it. Some of it is weird in a cool way, other things are a case of WHY WOULD ANYBODY WANT THIS?! This, of course, is a case of the latter.
An ebay seller by the name of xdpz has been selling giant (life-sized?) homemade plushes of popular characters and the such. If you look at the seller's feedback, you can see that they've had some success with a few of the items. Others? Not so much. The seller has created a handful of stuffed... things so creepy that they won't even sell for US$10. This includes a Renamon, something that's SUPPOSED to be Krystal from the Star Fox games, and a Lola Bunny so unnerving that I'm not even going to post an image of it here.
I first encountered the Renamon because I have a standing search on ebay for Renamon products. At the time, I believe it was over US$60. For those who don't use ebay, you can save a few searches (with parameters) and those will show up in a feed when you first load the site. Originally I had pretty loose parameters on that Renamon search. After I kept having to remove this thing from the feed because it kept getting re-listed, I wound up lowering the search parameters to anything under US$40 so I would never, EVER, have to see it again.... but it showed up under US$40 so I lowered my parameters to under US$30... then it showed up again... so I lowered my parameters to anything under US$20... and now apparently this thing is US$10.
I fully expect that it may someday be listed for a dollar and it STILL won't sell. However, if anybody buys one of these things, I expect that it will be to burn them so the world will never have to see them again.

Tiger Island
With a player experience that clearly pays homage to B-grade horror films of the 1950s, Ideal’s Tiger Island game makes me wish I had been privy to the conversations of the product design team that released it back in 1966.

New BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Busts, Banks and Statues by DIAMOND SELECT TOYS
Here's a quick post to share some Toy Collector "photo information" I came across the other day. It looks like that later this year, and leading into 2016, the DIAMOND SELECT TOYS company will be releasing a huge variety of Busts, Banks and Statues that are all related to the characters from the BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES franchise.
We're talking about both the TV cartoon and animated films. I mean, look at the variety they're showing off so far and check out THE PHANTASM. I mentioned "movies" too because, as we all know, he was the lead villain in that great animated film, "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm".
Now, these pics are about the only information I have right now so stay tuned to the BAT-BLOG and once we know more, you will too. In the mean time, I think all these toys look really really great!

#BATMAN UNLIMITED: ANIMAL INSTINCTS - Official Movie Trailer VIDEO
DC Entertainment recently premiered this new Movie Trailer Video for their next animated DC Comics feature titled, BATMAN UNLIMITED: ANIMAL INSTINCTS. Here is their ad copy:
Get ready for a beast of a battle as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment present a new all-ages Batman animated adventure. Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts is coming soon to Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD!
Now, for the few people who are not familiar with this strange variation of Batman, this is basically the version of the character created solely for the Mattel Toy Company to market Bat-Toys that are exclusive to them.
So, I'm a little concerned about the quality of this thing as it just might be nothing more than a giant "TV toy commercial". But, we'll have to wait and see. I think the trailer actually looks kinda cool. Also, I checked it out on Amazon and they say it will be released on May 12th, 2015.
Marcelo is #BATMAN!!
I wanted to take the time to quickly share these amazing photos sent in to us by a good friend named Marcelo. This is him, back in the day, when he was a little kid and totally loved Batman (he still does today).
He sent me these pics awhile back and I can't remember exactly where he is from but I think it was Brazil. So, that's very cool!
Marcelo, if I got your country of origin incorrect I completely apologize. As you know, it's been quite awhile since I got these from you and I forget things a lot now. Yes, I'm kind of a moron, ha ha! But I do deeply appreciate you sharing these wonderful memories, thank you.
