MARVEL IS REPLACING THE AVENGERS WITH AN ALL-FEMALE TEAM
In the midst of Marvel's Secret Wars event later this year, the Avengers will be no more and in their place will be A-Force, an all-lady superhero team. “She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and other fan favorites, will take charge,” says series co-writer G. Willow Wilson. “We’ve purposefully assembled a team composed of different characters from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies.”
I told my fiancée about this and her only reaction was “Now they’re just trying too hard,” which I thought was a pretty interesting female perspective. What do you think? Is Marvel trying too hard to win over more female readers? Are they alienating the male readers and loyal fans who have followed these stories throughout the years in the process?
Personally, I could care less what gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation my superheroes are as long as the stories are awesome.
Marvel Comics’ A-Force will be co-written by G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) and Marguerite K. Bennett (Angela: Asgard’s Assassin, Max Ride: First Flight) with artwork by Jorge Molina (X-Men).

NETFLIX IS WORKING ON A LIVE-ACTION ZELDA SERIES
Don’t get too excited just yet as none of this has been officially confirmed and the project supposedly doesn’t even have a writer. If it’s true, we’ll be waiting for a while if it even happens at all.
Via Wallstreet Journal:
The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on “Zelda,” about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter. As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as “Game of Thrones” for a family audience, this person said.
The “Zelda” games have traditionally included swords and sorcery, like “Game of Thrones” or “Lord of the Rings,” but typically with a more light-hearted, kid-friendly tone.
Netflix is said to be working closely with Nintendo, the Japanese game developer that has made about 20 “The Legend of Zelda” games since the original, which was released in the U.S. in 1987.
Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has allowed few adaptations over the years. An animated “Legend of Zelda” series ran for just one season in 1989. A 1993 movie based on Nintendo’s “Super Mario Bros.” was an infamous bomb.
As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a “Legend of Zelda” series actually becomes a reality. It’s also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground.
It will definitely be exciting to hear more about this project as it develops. Who should they cast as Link? Should he speak, or remain the silent hero to stay true to the games? Giant pig Gannon or buff bad guy Gannon? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!! Looks like we’ll have to wait a while to get any definite answers.
