NECA Batman Returns Penguin up for pre-order
The Penguin is pretty gross, ya'll. He's slightly more appealing in 1/4 scale, but NECA has put enough detail into the 15" figure to make me keep my distance. In the likeness of Danny DeVito's 1992 Batman Returns performance, this fully poseable figure features a movie accurate sculpt. Aside from his lovely black teeth, he comes with a removable top hat, fabric coat, and umbrella.
I'm usually not a fan of movie 'accurate' figures, but NECA doesn't disappoint with this version of Oswald Cobblepot. Danny is still the definitive Penguin after all these years and this figure does him justice. I only wish they had given the figure a nice basket of fish as an accessory. A guy's gotta eat.
NECA's Penguin is set to ship in June of this year. You can get him for around US$100 on your favorite online toy retailer!

Poppies results are in: See the top collectibles of 2014
This year's Poppies results are in and the overall best company is... --wait for it-- Hot Toys! Yeah, big surprise, right? While Hot Toys has been a judges' darling six years running now (can anybody beat the streak?), the other winners were a bit more varied.
Sadly, DST's Select Creature from the Black Lagoon (reviewed) didn't take top spot in "Best Male Figure 5 - 11-inch" category although he did manage to place third (and was the Captain's top choice). That honor instead went to the Revoltech TMNT Michelangelo. The S.H. Figuarts Mario (also reviewed) was the judges' and peoples' pick for the "Best Male Figure Under 5-inch" category.
The Hot Toys' Marvel offerings swept the "Best Toyline" category, being the judges', peoples', and Captain's top choice (NECA's Batman 1989 also pulled off a perfect trifecta in the "Best Male Figure over 18-inches" category). Surprisingly, Hot Toys' collectibles were underrepresented in the "Best Male Figure 12 - 17-inch" category where Sideshow's Darth Vader although the company pulled off *another* major coup when its version of the Black Widow won in the "Best Female Figure 12 - 17-inch" category. For those keeping track at home, all THREE of Hot Toys' Black Widows have won this award now.
And best statue? That went to the DC Comics Bombshell Harley Quinn who apparently won with just 10% of the vote (ie, not a landslide). Oh, plus Funko's ReAction line won some miscellaneous award, taking a solid 40% of the judges' votes (Full disclosure? It got my vote).
Do you agree with the winners? Have you checked out the full results yet?

Kotobukiya has the (Super) Power(s)! Latest ArtFX+ line will be throwback to the '80s
Did somebody order a time machine? Kotobukiya is taking fans back to the past with an ArtFX+ series inspired by Kenner's DC Super Powers Collection.
Fans will recall the roughly 4-inch line consisted of DC's superheroes, supervillains, and a few characters who were made up just to sell toys (I'm looking at you, Golden Pharaoh!). Each figure featured an action gimmick: by squeezing their legs, it would trigger things like arm flailing (if my balls were being scrunched, I imagine my arms would flail as well).
Although the line only lasted three years (and inspired the last two seasons of the Super Friends cartoon), it left its mark in the hearts of collectors and has inspired a few homages over the years... in addition to "inspiring" Mattel's DC Superheroes line (see a comparison of Penguins).
Kotobukiya humorously introduced the line of statues as follows:
"Return to the classic era of action figures with the DC Comics SUPER POWERS COLLECTION, a vintage-inspired line of ARTFX+ statues from Kotobukiya! With features such as 'Power Action' stances, multiple points of non-articulation and real cloth capes it will feel like the 80’s all over again! Remember…only you can decide the battle of good vs. evil!"
Personally, I can't wait to see the series... even if I'm not expecting much from "Power Action" stances. (Prove me wrong, Kotobukiya, prove me wrong.) The inclusion of cloth elements should help to really set the line apart both from Kotobukiya's usual offerings as well as comparable collectibles from other companies.
Will Kotobukiya release an ArtFX+ Darkseid? And will he feature light-piping? Only time will tell.
sort those toys with pin pres
As any parent will tell you, storage and organization take on an entirely different meaning when you have kids. I’m finding it’s especially true as Birdie gets older – suddenly all the pieces are 10x smaller, 10x more plentiful, and 10x more lost. All the time. So when a product promises to get your kids […]

Power to the People: GSC opens a poll for overseas fans
Good Smile Company has released a poll for its overseas fans (ie, everybody not living in Japan or its immediate vicinity).
While many of the questions are the usual "Where do you buy..." humdrum, there is a question devoted specifically to what fans want to see in the line (the answer? Richard Moore/Kogoro Mouri from Case Closed / Detective Conan). GSC mentions that these characters can come from "anime, games, etc" (The "etc" opens up a world of possibilities. I mean, you could even suggest a Santa with Muscles Hulk Hogan!) and specifies that the choices can come from both new and old games (meaning we could potentially finally see a figma Inuyasha to go with that Kagome?)
There's a good chance nothing may come of those figure suggestions, but it's still worth a shot. I mean, how else is GSC going to know that fans want a figma Yusuke Urameshi?
