Reclaim the throne with empty's Chara-Forme Chrom
Fire Emblem: Awakening continues it's merchandising tie-in's with this deformed version of the game's protagonist, Chrom. This little guy is prepared to marry whoever you decide to have him chat up for hours on end. Part of the Nendoroid competition market, it's as close to a figure of Falchion's master we've seen in a while. Maybe we'll see the most popular characters of the game each in completely different lines (figma Lucina, Max Factory Tharja...).
The armor and sword (Falchion, sword of the immortals/heroes/beach bums) have a great sculpt, and focused detail, especially packed into the small form factor. The Chara-Forme line doesn't go for exact representation (if so, you wouldn't see feet on him...am I right?); but for an aim-for-the-cute toy, this has a surprising amount of character retention. That serious business face says it all for the alternate-Exalted Lord. He stands around 4 inches tall, and empty is claiming a May 2015 release. MSRP of ¥3,800, and you can start planning which abilities his children will have (hint, they'll be super-deformed).

MaloApril shows off a pretty zombie and a rocker chick
MaloApril recently finished up two custom Dunnys as a commission and, as always, I find myself super jealous of anyone owning her pieces.
The first is a zombie with fantastic eyes (I love the lashes) and decked out with a skull tee. She's got some blood splatter going on, and generally looks expressive and fab. The second figure is a rocker chick who looks to be an AC/DC fan. This second one has a great purple motif to her, and a little bit of extra sculpted hair, plus a flower.
Great work from April, as usual. You can follow her on Instagram to see her wonderful creations as they come to life. See images of the customs I mentioned in the gallery below.

10 DIY Valentines for Kids
Do you have hearts in your eyes yet? Valentine’s Day is so much more exciting when you have kiddos to celebrate it with. Suddenly, all those sappy, silly cliches are totally fun. I actually embrace the hearts and the pink and red explosion. It’s all part of the kid-friendly version of the holiday. I don’t […]

Mattel CEO Bryan Stockton parts ways with company
Various news sources have reported that Mattel's CEO, Bryan Stockton, has resigned following another disappointing holiday season.
While much of the news focuses around Barbie sales (with the usual references to feminist rants against the once-popular doll), there are a few other shout-outs to brands like Monster High, Mega Bloks, and so forth.
Unfortunately, Yahoo Finance notes that "[Mattel] did not provide a breakdown on sales of Barbie or other products" which means that we don't have any visibility into the actual performance of the individual lines. However, judging from the quality of stuff going in retail in recent years, I can't imagine that many of the lines are doing that well.
According to a Toyark excerpt taken from the Wallstreet Journal:
Mr. Stockton took the CEO job three years ago and has presided over a long run of weak results. People inside the company and at customers attributed the slide to a growing focus on the numbers and overseas expansion at the expense of the company’s creative side. The company’s executives became entangled in a culture that valued endless meetings and long PowerPoint presentations. Meanwhile, smaller competitors like VTech Holdings Ltd. were taking shelf space and Lego A/S was challenging Mattel’s position as the largest toy company.
Granted, things like holiday sales (which are a big thing for Mattel corporate) likely have little impact on divisions like Matty Collector which itself has seen a number of setbacks last year including the loss of luminary Scott Neitlich and the cancellation of yet another club when MOTU Minis failed to meet its target. This is in addition to Matty losing its bread & butter this coming year when Club Eternia finally comes to a close.
Does this mean the end for Mattel? Probably not, but it might be a wake-up call for the company and, as it re-focuses its efforts, we may see some changes in coming years.
