Jamieshow Demi-Couture Ginny

In a fit of "I need another doll" impulsivity, I ordered Demi-Couture Ginny (aka Ginnie.) She is a 12" resin ball-jointed doll.  The 12" Jamieshow BJDs made their debut appearance a few years ago but their face sculpts were not well received and they did not do well.

The three current offerings, Grace, Eshe and Ginny are 1/6 scale replicas of the full-sized Jamieshow dolls of the same name. Just like their larger counterparts, they come with a rooted wig cap and a bald wig cap. A small version of the Jamieshow doll stand is included as well.

These dolls went on sale for $191.99 recently. The sale ends at midnight on 1/11/14.
If you have Silkstone dolls, you have seen the prices skyrocket for regular releases. That made me think that this price was reasonable for a doll with joints that actually move in more than one direction. BTW Silkstone is resin.

Also available on sale is a special Grace doll, expressive hands and some shoes.

I've had one of these Demi bodies for a while and was using it with a Liz Taylor Silkstone head.

When I took Liz out of a showcase to photograph her with Ginny, I was dismayed to find that she had become very, very kicky in her hip joints. It was almost impossible to keep her upright for this photo so she is posing partially sitting. Her knees and arms are fine. I will have to wire her hip and upper legs to correct this issue.

In my photos of Ginny, she is wearing a wig that I had in my collection because her wig was frizzy and unkempt looking. I've heard that washing it out helps. It's either the fiber being used or it's being over-heated during styling. I've had this problem with every other non-bun/non-updo Jamieshow wig cap.  It happens with other manufacturer's dolls as well on occasion. Straight styles and updos are fine. It only happens when the fibers have been over-processed. As a photographer, I pay attention to the appearance of hair. It drives me crazy when I can't tame a wavy hairdo properly. There's curly and there's messed up.

Ginny is wearing Barbie (Louboutin) shoes just to illustrate that their foot size is almost exactly the same. Barbie's is a tiny bit smaller. FR2 shoes would be too large. Original FR shoes will fit as will  FR clothes from the second body. (That would be the first articulated body before they went to the first tall body. ) Of course there will be other clothes that fit depending upon their cut.

I recommend buying one or more of these demi dolls now while the price is right.

RYAN REYNOLDS’ PETS TELL HIM TO KILL PEOPLE IN THE VOICES

Here’s Ryan Reynolds doing a bit of an oddball character in a trailer for his upcoming comedy film, The Voices. The story involves a mentally ill man named Jerry (Reynolds) who must somehow overcome the voices of his evil cat and angelic dog — two pets who persuade Jerry to do terrible things (like killing others). Film drops February 6 with a limited theatrical run and VOD.

Super Sonico goes under the sea

There have been some really interesting Sonico figures in the mix, including a few fairytale themed versions, but nothing quite like this! The curvy musician has been transformed into an adorable mermaid, although still retaining her trademark headphones.

Reclining on stack of layered rocks/shells/water (it's hard to tell in it's unpainted state), Sonico's undersea attire includes a tail covered in sea stars, a tiny shell bikini top, and a bevy of accessories. I'm seriously questioning the decision to include a butt crack above the tail, as that is taking the fan service to a weird and unnecessary level. That aside, the statue looks well balanced and I'm looking forward to seeing what it will look like once painted.

Mermaid Sonico will be a prize figure, so you should see her making internet rounds in the near future. Is this one that you would be interested in adding to your collection? Share your thoughts below!

Thanks, “John H.” for the nice photos. The Mack Truck connects to the other new/coming “Story Sets.” Looks fun for the little tykes. Good flap design. The bottom right photo shows how it connects to the other sets. It doesn’t specifically say but it looks like the new PLANES F&R sets also connect. Fire at […]

Now sold separately: DST's Marvel Select Electro gets an individual release

Diamond Select Toys and Disney Store have broken up the band: The Marvel Select classic comic Electro will now be available through a Disney Store exclusive single configuration.

Back in the Summer, we reported that Diamond Select Toys would be releasing a classic-costumed Electro in a 2-pack with a MS Spider-Man. At the time I had bemoaned that this decision and apparently many other fans did as well, since Electro will now be available in a single pack.

This solidly-designed Electro comes with the same "power rod" accessory seen in the 2-pack. Since there are no new accessories, fans who picked up the first set might not feel too shafted by this later release (well, other than needing to buy another Spidey to get Electro).

Of course, this move comes at a time when the 2-pack is currently discounted from US$50 to US$30 on DisneyStore.com (perhaps poor sales prompted the break-up?), so you're really only saving US$5 by buying Electro individually. It might be a different situation at individual retailers, though. Be sure to check out all the images in the gallery.

EE takes Funko's Pop! Cthulhu, makes it glow in dark, and plans to unleash some real March madness

Funko's previously revealed Pop! Cthulhu not scary enough for you? What if he had red eyes? And glowed in the dark?

Entertainment Earth will be exclusively selling such a variant which looks just as cool as the first version (meaning it's time to buy both?). While I'm not the biggest fan of glow-in-the-dark gimmicks, the EE exclusive looks great by daylight as well. When you couple these two fantastic releases with DST's upcoming vinyl bank bust, 2015 might be the year of Cthulhu.

Funko's EE-exclusive glow-in-the-dark Pop! Cthulhu can be pre-ordered for US$11 and is slated for a March release. Are you ready for some real March Madness?

Tomopop Review: Kotobukiya's Tomo Asama

Once more, we return to the world of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon, and Kotobukiya are once again the providers of another figure of a cast member from the show. We've had a look at Honda Futayo before and this time, we're looking at Asama Tomo, another one of the busty trio (still waiting for my Aoi Kimi though).

Tomo has been a rather popular choice for figures from the show, having been depicted in other forms prior to this release, but the last major figure of Tomo had her in a rather uncharacteristic pose. The Kotobukiya release has her in a pose which is much more in tune with her character. But of course, a better pose doesn't make a better figure. Having said that, Futayo ended up pretty nicely, so can Kotobukiya make it two for two? Only one way to find out...

Let's get it on!!
