Happy New Year 2015!

Wishing all my readers a wonderful New Year of love, good health, abundance and happiness.

Amidst all the chaos and unrest in this country and this world, I often look for a true joy I can focus on. Right now that is the love I have for my dog. For almost 12 years he has been our constant companion, playmate and loving pet. Rudy has changed our lives and enriched it in ways I can't even describe.

As many of you know, his health began to fail a year ago and his prognosis was as bad as it could get. I fear that his time on earth is drawing to an end. But for now I can look at him, talk to him and touch him. We've been spoiling the heck out of him. Why not? He's been such a good dog.

My love for him is my retreat.
Dolls are ought but mirrors.
My dog is my soul.

I hope you have a joy and a love in your life.

Writer Mairghread Scott has shared some excellent news this afternoon. In response to a question posted to her tumblr page as to the status of the returning Windblade title, Mairghread has stated that Windblade will continue even after the Combiner Wars event has been wrapped up. As of right now it seems that along with Transformers, More Than Meets The Eye, and Transformers vs GI Joe, we'll soon have a fourth ongoing title with Windblade. We can hardly wait!

James Roberts Shares 'Deleted Scene' From More Than Meets The Eye

To make a happier New Year for all, James Roberts has shared the script for a scene that has twice had to be left on the cutting room floor from intended inclusion in issues of More Than Meets The Eye. The scene was most recently having had to be cut from issue 22 for lack of space. Roberts cautions that this has never undergone editorial or licensor approval and is firmly non-canon, but it's his "headcanon". Either way it's a wonderfully entertaining scene. See an excerpt after the cut, then go read the full posting!

The bad bots shine at BotCon 2015 with Cybertron's Most Wanted

It's almost here! OK, no it isn't, it's actually around half a year away, but that's not stopping BotCon from spending New Year's Eve getting fans revved up for 2015! For Cybertron's Most Wanted expect to see a lot of parallels with Marvel's hit Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The story will feature a ragtag group of Transformers misfits saving Cybertron from an "extra-dimensional" threat. Sounds familiar, right?

Here's how BotCon puts it:

The thief.
The muscle.
The loose canon.
The bounty hunter.
The boss.

They're criminals.
Nefarious outlaws.
Hunted fugitives.
And the planet's only hope.

In the city of Axiom Nexus, in a Universe where Autobots and Decepticons from across the Multiverse coexist peacefully, a group of renegades operate off the grid, using deception, scheming, and a hint of thievery to both survive and to further their own ambitions. However after the Transtech, the guardians of Axiom Nexus, are unable to stop an extra-dimensional threat, these outlaws will soon find themselves as Cybertron's last best hope for survival!

Yep, that's pretty much GotG. Should be interesting to see what characters they use as analogs for the movie. Being Axiom Nexus they'll be able to source their figures from any Transformers toy line of the past to make a cohesive set. One popular theory is "me Grimlock" for "I am Groot", perhaps the Animated figure? There's really an endless number of choices they could go with for any member.

BotCon is expected to deliver another update, a preview of the comic, soon. Until then see if you can come up with who represents who in this series. BotCon 2015 will run from June 18 to 21 in Chicago/St. Charles, Illinois.

WHAT TO DO ON NEW-YEARS EVE: WATCH THE GUEST

It’s New Years Eve.

If you’re reading this, you’re either on the west coast waiting for friends to give you a heads up on where the party’s at, or you’re a loser an introvert who decided to stay home tonight and play it safe. Maybe you’re staying indoors with a small group of friends, or you’re like me and you’re bundled up with a significant other to keep you warm while you ignore fireworks (or gunshots) from the coziness of your bedroom.

Whatever the case may be, you should do something tonight to ease   your stress into the New Year. You should spend your night watching a gem of a film I found largely ignored by many year-end lists and movie buffs. Whether you’re with pals or by yourself, you should spend tonight watching one of the greatest films 2014 has to offer: The Guest.

The film revolves around the mysterious well-mannered David Collins (Dan Stevens of Downtown Abbey fame) and his welcomed stay at the Petersons’ home after revealing he was a comrade of their fallen soldier son Caleb. Being the last living-link of their lost son, the family takes him in as he’s introduced to the rest of the family: son Luke Peterson (Brendan Meyer), who acts as if Collins may be the greatest friend he’s ever had, and the rebellious daughter Anna Peterson (Maika Monroe), who became suspicious of Collins’ background since their first meeting, yet still couldn’t help but gasp at a glimpse of his amazing abs.

Collins is perfect: He’s cute, he’s buff, he’s even-tempered, incredibly polite, and he can fight. What the Petersons don’t know is what the mysterious man is capable of. What the audience knows from the beginning is actually way more than any character in the entire movie. That’s because The Guest plays heavily on general tropes and archetypes, but executes it so well, it comes off as intelligent and stylish, rather than annoying and cliché.

In fact, the movie layers its coolness in between several genres and eras of filmmaking. It’s difficult to pinpoint what type of movie The Guest is, but it’s manageable to call it a blend of suspense, horror, dark comedy, and sci-fi. It’s homage to 80’s. It’s an ode to clichés.

It’s a film where kids prove to adults that they were right the entire time. The final battle takes place in a high school gym just before a Halloween party. Kids are smoking pot and drinking beers in typical horror-movie costume party fashion. It’s a film featuring an antagonist badass with no backstory the audience loves to root for during the entirity. It’s a goddamn film by every stereotype, but it’s done so well it seems like an eleaborate 80’s joke on slasher films and action flicks.

The Guest was written by Simon Barrett and directed by Adam Wingard who’ve previously worked on one of 2011’s (or 2013’s) greatest movies, You’re Next. That should give some readers an idea of what to expect with The Guest — a sly story of a shady character whose intentions are more destructive than orginally thought.

It’s all in good clean fun for film buffs and cult fans. It’s also a go-to movie for this those wanting something to peep on New Years Eve, sober or not. I highly suggest watching The Guest sometime soon, but tonight might be the best night for it.

Happy New Year’s — be safe everyone!
