Merry Christmas All!
Batgirl statue a breath of fresh air
In a sea of lazy, mass produced figures, artist created toys are always fun to come across. Jesse Farrell, sculptor extraordinaire, contributed this fun piece for HUB Comics 6th Annual Dark Knight on a Dark Night and I'm totally into it.
Batgirl's 2014 redesign by Stewart/Tarr was a hit from the start, inspiring cosplay and fanart from day one (hello yellow Dr. Martens). Jesse did a great job capturing the youthful and fashion-forward heroine in a pose reminiscent of her first appearance in Detective Comics #359. I especially love the little details; her smartphone with the bat background and the cup of coffee spilling from her left hand.
Hopefully we'll see some toys coming out soon featuring Barbara's latest look, and it looks like that will happen soon with DC Collectibles releasing a Batgirl of Burnside statue in September of 2015. Until that happens, I'm happy that there are so many talented artists offering up one of a kind pieces for the fans to enjoy.

HERE’S THE ORIGINAL 2001 INTRO STANLEY KUBRICK REJECTED
Before Stanley Kubrick made the decision to use classical music for 2001: A Space Odyssey's soundtrack, he hired composer Alex North to create original music for the movie's opening. In typical Kubrick style, he cut North's entire score in postproduction and replaced it with the classical soundtrack we know 2001 for today.
40 minutes of Alex North’s intended score can be heard over at rdio. The video up above was created by YouTube user Robert Beardsley and is an edit of the intro to North’s music. It’s not spot-on perfect, but it does give you an idea of what 2001: A Space Odyssey could’ve been — a drastically different movie.
