Video Review of Gigantic Action Scorponok From Sentinel Toys

Vangelus has brought us what, as far as we can determine, may be the first detailed English-language coverage of Sentinel's Fortress Maximus-sized, non-transforming Scorponok figure. With a whopping hefty price tag attached - and shipping costs to match! - this is a purchase to be carefully considered, and now you can get a good look at the massive figure in action, and learn a little about how it's built. Click through to check out the review and decide if your bank account, or indeed your home can accommodate this monster!

MegaHouse shows a lot of pieces of One Piece at Megahobby Expo

Once again One Piece was the number one manga in sales in Japan for 2014 so it's no wonder why MegaHouse couldn't show any restraint when displaying OP figures at Megahobby Expo Autumn 2014. Some of these we've seen before, but still brought more than enough unpainted pieces to make us happy! Best of all it's not all New World stuff, they're doing a bunch of kids and even some from the first leg of the Grand Line. There's too much to talk about every figure individually so first a list of everything on display and then some comments.

Portrait of Pirates MILD (child versions)

  • Nami
  • Roronoa Zoro
  • Nojiko
  • Boa Hancock
  • Brook
  • Monkey D. Luffy
  • Nico Robin (standing)
  • Nico Robin (sitting, reissue)
  • Sanji

Portrait of Pirates Sailing Again

  • Koala
  • Sabo
  • Eustass Kid
  • Killer
  • Trafalgar Law (ver. 2)
  • Trafalgar Law (ver. 2.5 shirtless)

Portrait of Pirates DX

  • Roronoa Zoro (10th Limited ver.)
  • Mr. 2 Bon Clay (Impel Down)
  • Portgas D. Ace (10th Limited ver.)

Variable Action Heroes

  • Monkey D. Luffy
  • Trafalgar Law

OK, so this is pretty exciting if you're a One Piece fan. The kid figures all look really great. I honestly hate those half-age figures that turn up every now and then, this is how kid figures should look. For the most part they're accurate to their appearances. Thanks to the manga we should be seeing a Law figure sometime soon which will also require a certain other character to be paired with, perhaps for the DX line. I guess we could use a MILD Doflamingo while we're at it, too.

For the Sailing Again figures they picked two pairs of real winners. Koala and Sabo look absolutely perfect together and they even added some interaction with Koala holding his hat. I assume the hat can actually go on Sabo's head and maybe that hand can be replaced with a fist? Now we just need a Hack figure to finish out the trio. On the other side Killer and Captain Kid make for two massive looking figures that should look great painted. To say nothing of imposing. They haven't seen any action in the manga yet, but it's only a matter of time.

Taking a trip back to the DX line it's pretty great that they're doing Impel Down figures and hopefully we see a lot more where those came from. Bon Clay is a good place to pick up since, if I'm not mistaken, the closest they've come to addressing that arc is Shiliew. We need prisoner versions of Mr. 3, Buggy, and Crocodile, too! And can you believe they're making their 10th Zoro figure? And it's a classic Zoro rather than a New World version to boot. Making it a DX figure means it should be the best version of Zoro yet and so far the sculpt doesn't disappoint!

That just leaves the Heroes figures. The line is basically the successor to the S.H.Figuarts run, but in a larger seven inch scale. They're great looking figures, but the scale doesn't interact well with other lines so it's a little hard to justify them. If they had gone an inch larger they could be matched with the POP figures and a little smaller they'd fit in with SHF and the like. Who knows, maybe they'll make a bunch of them, but it seems unlikely seeing as how they haven't announced any others with them coming out next month.

Now where's my Sabo as Lucy figure?

MegaHouse rounds out the remaining Digimon DigiDestined at Megahobby Expo

MegaHouse showed off the finished sculpts for the remaining Digimon Adventures DigiDestined at Megahobby Expo Autumn 2014. What started with Tai and Matt in 2014 and continued with Kari and T.K. looks to be possibly wrapping up in 2015. The expected double release of Mimi with Palmon and Izzy with Tentomon are already shown in full color and look just as good as the previous four figures. Also shown were Joe with Gomamon and Sora with Biyomon in an unpainted state so don't expect them until late next year at the most. Hopefully this time next year we'll see some of the 02 characters getting similar figures and maybe something for the new TV series.

Also shown was a new line of plushies for all eight Digimon partners. They appear to be quite large, dare I say even life size? They're also surprsiingly well detailed. I kinda want a Tentomon plush for all of its nice detail, but that Gabumon is pretty great as well. MegaHouse might be on to something if they can keep making Digimon plushies of this quality.

As much as I love what MegaHouse has been doing with Digimon I do hope Bandai comes through and makes more actual toys at some point.

While the in-store stock situation is not a new situation, it is puzzling. On paper, it seems to be a mostly normal year – there were 14+ cases (including twin cases) plus a few retailer pallets/sidecaps … but to the average CARS buyer, they would be STUNNED to hear there were 14+ case assortment releases. MegaHobby Expo 2014 Autumn: Alter

I've been feeling lukewarm about Alter's showings at events lately, but that changed when I saw what they brought to MegaHobby Expo. There's still the usual bishoujo/bishounen figures I don't really care for, but there were also a handful of centerpiece-style figures that really got me excited.

Let's play a game: which figure has Tian drooling the most? It's not the Aliasse figure in the header, though that one does look great. Click the jump to find out! Also head over to Akiba Hobby for more photos of Alter's display.
