A Call to Action (Figures): Toy Petitions
In case anyone hasn’t heard Toys “R” Us has pulled all of its Breaking Bad figures off its shelves in response to a petition over the appropriateness of those toys for children. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston (Walter White) joked that he was “so mad, [he's] burning [his] Florida Mom action figure in protest,” and […]

WIP Wednesday Week 3 – Anthony’s Customs
It’s that time of week again folks! Work in Progress Wednesday has reached it’s third installment and this week we’re interviewing one of my favorite customizers in the community, Anthony. I’ve been familiar with his work since he began posting customs on the old McFaralane Spawn message boards and it’s been a pleasure to watch […]

Un-American Activity spotted Friday at Toy Art Gallery
Attention citizens of Los Angeles: we are receiving reports of Un-American Activity that will be going down this Friday at Toy Art Gallery (7571 Melrose Ave.). Three artists from across the Atlantic -- Jon Paul Kaiser, Doktor A and Seymour -- will be bringing an army of automatons, black-and-white beings and mutants along for the ride. Dok and Jon Paul will even be there for opening night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., but if you can't make it Friday, the show will still be running through Dec. 6.
Check out the gallery for some of Seymour and Dok's works that will be on display. Sadly, we don't have much else from Jon Paul except the piece on the show's teaser image, but I imagine all three artists will be bringing custom figures made in their signature styles.

Start saving coins, Nendoroid Mario pre-orders have begun
It's only been a few months since Nendoroid Mario was announced back at Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer), but it feels like a year! The wait will still continue for a while longer before he's released in May 2015, but at least we're now another step closer. Pre-orders for Mario opened today and he won't be coming empty handed. Far from it. Despite a somewhat average price of ¥4,167 for a Nendoroid he's coming packed with accessories!
Mario will be coming along with two expressions (open and closed mouth smile), an oversize green base (with a buch of stand arms), special hands, blocks, coin, backdrop, super mushroom, and special leg parts made to look like he's either jumping or making a quick stop complete with effect part. Best of all is the crossed arm parts, not just for himself but for Luigi, too! Plus it's not just Mario in the box, he'll be joined by a Boo and Buzzy Beetle as well! The backdrop will be more than just free standing card as it'll also come with its own supports that can suspend the blocks to make them look like they're floating in the air.
I feel like the only thing missing is a kart. Kahotan also has photos on the GSC blog that you can see mirrored in the gallery. You can't get your hands on one just yet, but reserving one now will make sure you have one in May. If you order through the Good Smile shop you'll also get another three coins, but you'll be paying a lot for something kinda small like that. Now I have to assume there's at least one more figure on the way just because Mario and Luigi come with a Goomba, Bullet Bill, Buzzy Beetle, and Boo, but no Koopa Troopa. So, who will come with the Nendo Koopa?

Is Hasbro looking to buy DreamWorks Animation?
Once again Hasbro is in the news for something not directly related to figures. According to the New York Times' Dealbook Hasbro is now in advance talks to purchase DreamWorks Animation. It's only been a few weeks since Hasbro and Discovery ended their partnership with Discovery to produce the Hub Netowork, but Hasbro hasn't wasted any time moving on to bigger things. If Hasbro were to purchase DreamWorks Animation (not to be confused with former parent company DreamWorks Studios) not only would they gain a new animation studio to handle things like Transformers and My Little Pony projects, they'd also gain ownership of properties like Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon.
Dealbook suggests that Hasbro is trying to model itself after LEGO and the way that company went from a modest toy company to an entertainment force through its video games and recent movie. I'd say Hasbro has already done well with their own model of using live action movies to gain success, but they've been lacking a major animated feature film for a while. Back over the summer Hasbro posted How to Ride Your Dinobot shorts online which has me wondering just how long these talks have been going on.
It wasn't that long ago that the rumor was circulating that Disney was looking to buy Hasbro (which ended up being false), but now it's Hasbro looking to buy a movie studio. Of course the deal is far from final and there's still a chance of it falling through. Dealbook has more details at the link above. I'm definitely supportive of this deal as it benefits both companies greatly, especially with more Dragon and Kung Fu Panda movies on the way perfect for selling figures.
