BotCon and JoeCon move to Illinois in 2015
Today is the first day of the unofficial Transformers convention TFCon in Chicago, Illinois. I guess there's no better time than today for Fun Publications to announce that their two major Hasbro-backed conventions are heading to Illinois in 2015.
JoeCon 2015 will be holding down the fort in Springfield at the Prairie Capital Convention Center from April 9 to 12. Hotel reservations are now open at the incredibly long named President Abraham Lincoln Springfield DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and will be available at a special rate until March 18 or they sell out. Meanwhile BotCon 2015 will be transforming the Pheasant Run Resort in Chicago/St. Charles from June 18 to 21. Special rates right at the resort are open until May 29, but will certainly sell out long before.
Neither convention is giving away their themes just yet, but we've got plenty of time for those to be revealed. This is great news for those living in the upper mid-west, but a mutually long trip for those of living on the coasts. Still, it's a cheaper flight than going cross country.

Transformers Asia gets MP Skywarp and HA Barricade/Soundwave set
Looks like golden Masterpiece Megatron isn't the only new thing coming exclusively to Transformers Asia. Announced today Asia will soon be getting the new MP-11SW Skywarp. This is Skywarp's third Masterpiece, previously released by Takara Tomy as MP-06 in 2007 and a Walmart exclusive from Hasbro in 2008, but this is the first time he's been released using the revised MP-11 Starscream mold. In fact he's only Takara Tomy's third figure to use the mold, the other being MP-11S Sunstorm, while Hasbro has used the mold three times to make the Toys R Us exclusive Thundercracker, Acid Storm, and Sunstorm once again. The figure looks great, very cartoon accurate and I'm actually glad Takara Tomy left out the coronation cape and crown on this release. If this wasn't an Asia release (and I didn't already have MP-06) I might want one, but not for the US$199.99 that some stores like Big Bad Toy Store and TFSource are asking.
But that's not all, Transformers Asia also has something big in store for movie fans. They'll be offering a special Human Alliance two pack featuring Barricade and the Dark of the Moon Soundwave figure that was never released in the US. As part of the HA series Barricade will also come with a mini Frenzy as he did in the original movie while Soundwave comes with little Laserbeak and Mr. Gould figures. Pretty fitting set considering Barricade was basically the prototype Soundwave character in the first movie while both off them have the distinction of getting their butts handed to them by Bumblebee. By the looks of it these are identical to their individual releases which can be a hassle to find now, especially Soundwave. At the US$144.99 that BBTS and TFSource are asking for them, working out to about US$72.50 each, they're a great deal when compared to most ebay auctions asking upwards of US$200 for Soundwave alone.

Three's A Charm When It Comes To These Steiff Auction Highlights!
Steiffgal can't think of a better way to start your day - and this review - than with this delightful and unusual Steiff rooster on wheels. He has amazing wheel-appeal! According to the catalog in part, "This wonderful wooden rooster pull toy is made from three pieces of carefully cut wood. The bird itself is delightfully and authentically painted in greens, tans, and golds. He has black dimensional eyes and a playful red comb and waddle. He is mounted upon a metal carriage with four green eccentric wheels. He also sways back and forth in a see-saw manner; the overall effect of him in motion is simply charming. Rooster retains his Steiff button, which is skillfully placed near where his ears would be, if he had any. Rooster appeared in the Steiff line from 1919-1941 in this size only. SIZE: Overall 7-1/2″ h."
Although most people associate soft toys and collectibles with Steiff, the company also has a long tradition of manufacturing wooden playthings, too. The first wooden items appeared around 1910 and were mostly accessories for the Teddy bears, animals, and dolls in the line. Then in the late 19-teens and early 1920's, Steiff began producing large numbers of wooden items - in part because high quality woolen fabrics were in short supply post World War l. These treasures included block sets, wooden characters on rocking bases and wooden wheels, building sets, trains, pull wagons, animal-themed wagons, novelties, and animals and birds on wheels. The pull toy birds were exceptionally popular and manufactured overall through the early 1940's. A wooden duck squeaker toy from this period is pictured here on the left for comparison; the photo is from the website www.oldwoodtoys.com.
Next, let's all shake a leg and check out this fantastic Steiff sweetheart from the late 1920's. According to the catalog in part, "This “tall drink of water” is Rabbiette. She has a mohair rabbit head; long, soft unjointed dangling limbs; and mohair hands and paws. Her body, arms, and legs are made from velvet, which has faded over time. She has glass, very large black and brown pupil eyes and embroidered claws, nose, and mouth. Rabbiette is one of a series of long limbed lovelies in the Steiff catalog from 1927-1932. These “play and car dolls” included Bulliette, the bulldog, and Fluffiette, the cat, among others. These were based on the most popular named Steiff characters of the time. Each had the head of the character, mohair paws and feet, and dangling velvet limbs. Rabbiette has all of her Steiff IDs including her most exceptional metal rimmed chest tag, long trailing F button, and red ear tag. SIZE: 8″ h."
