Good Smile Company is awesome for getting us right up close with their latest display pieces at New York Comic Con! You can practically smell the fresh paint on the figures! This is as close as you can get without being there so take some time to go through this entirely new gallery. And if you want to see more shots then head on over to yesterday's gallery.
Starting with the big one: that huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle display! Combined it's a very stunning set of statues even if three quarters of them haven't been painted yet. The amount of detail in their skin and shells is way up on the high side. Looking at the unpainted prototypes has me thinking this would be a pretty cool set to have in black and white like the old comics. Would probably look pretty awesome if they all had red masks, too! The connected base they're all standing on is pretty nice, though I think I would have preferred a city rooftop if that were possible. But I still like this one, it's like something out of Dimension X. You can bet we'll have more on these figures as they're announced.
One of the other big draws, not surprising being NYCC, is Nendoroid Batman! The mini version of Bats is as detailed as any full-size action figure can hope to be. He's got a great brooding face and I can only imagine what his gravely voice would sound like coming out of it. He's shown displayed with a grappling gun and a bat signal, but I'm thinking that's not all. Now that he's painted we should be getting release details and price pretty quickly!
figma Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 2 was also on display. Sure, we've seen him painted before, but sometimes it's a lot easier to see the details without the colors. Notice now little you can see of the black joints, especially from the front? That's some good sculpting right there. There's very little to complain about here, even the hair, which sometimes doesn't look so great on male figma, is very satisfyingly spiky. They didn't mess around on the pockets and the knees are so well sculpted it's easy to forget they're articulated. It's still unknown what accessories he'll come with, but I'd like to think he'll at least come with a box to hide in. Again no release info, but I bet we'll hear something very soon.
Eva Racing's Asuka and Rei Nendoroids have finally been displayed fully painted together! It's hard to believe we haven't had Nendoroids for the Evangelion pilots before, but we soon will! They're trading in their plug suits for race queen attire and looking incredibly cute in the process! It's still unclear just how or where these will be released, but I'm sure we won't have much longer to wait.
But that's not all! We've also got close-ups of some of the figures coming out soon. For Nendos we've got a great look at Kill la Kill's Satsuki Kiryuuin (due out by the end of October) and Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura (also set for October). Then for figma we got wonderful shots of Bakemonogatari's Shinobu Oshino (both figma and figFIX versions, both for April), Sinon from Sword Art Online 2 (coming in February), and Kantai Collection's Shimakaze figFIX (out in April). I'm personally happy to see Sinon's hair is a more muted green still rather than the brighter shad we've seen in recent official pictures.

After reading all about Kotobukiya's future products in Tian's overview of their panel at this year's New York Comic-Con, I am sure you are chomping at the bit to feast your optical nerves on the company's booth from the event. Kotobukiya's limited edition con exclusive was a Nightwing Origins ArtFX+ statue in a blue outfit colorway. It was nestled in a display along with figures of other DC Comics characters, including the upcoming Batwoman Bishoujo and Zatanna Bishoujo statues (both shown unpainted).
From the Marvel universe, the newly-painted Jubilee was available for viewing (along with the her first production-exclusive bonus parts). Other figures of note include Kotobukiya's new Marvel Now! Avengers and the placard for the announced X-Men figures in that line.
For gaming fans, Halo's Master Chief ArtFX statue was on display. That is note even mentioning all of the new Tekken and Street Fighter Bishoujo statues on display. The former brought an unpainted Anna Williams prototype and the latter supplied concept art of Sakura and Poison. And new statutes from the Attack on Titan ArtFX J line, both painted and unpainted were sure to be crowd-pleasers.
Check out the gallery to see more of the booth!

Hasbro's preview night also included a first look at the company's upcoming 6-inch and 3.75-inch Star Wars Black Series figures. None of these selections were anywhere as exciting as the bounty-hunting IG-88 assassin droid set to appear in the 6-inch line.
Fans will recall IG-88's sole (official?) film appearance was on the deck of the Executioner in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back where he stood among the assembled bounty hunters, but the character would go on to appear in some cartoons as well as receiving a memorable role in the videogame Shadows of the Empire. Perhaps less well-known is role in the Expanded Universe, where stories revealed that the bounty hunter known as IG-88 was actually FOUR separate, identical droids who operated under that name and shared something of a gestalt consciousness by uploading their data into the other units.
IG-88 previously had a pretty cool figure in the 3.75-inch Saga Legends line, but it lacked both outward arm and leg movement (at the shoulder and hips respectively). Unfortunately, it's difficult to tell whether that jointing has been implemented on this new figure given the vanilla pose but I'm both hoping and expecting that one will in place. Here's to hoping that we see the other bounty hunters (Dengar, Zuckuss, and 4-Lom from the films) before long.
The other 6-inch reveals included a Stormtrooper Luke, a Bouchh Leia, the Emperor, Commander Cody, and a Clone Captain. While I've been inclined to dislike the Stormtrooper variants in the past, I've since come to recognize their value as just ordinary army builders (since with the helmet on it looks like any other storm trooper). The 4-inch selection includes Boushh Leia, a C-3PO, a Jawas 2-pack, Clone Commander Thorn, and Mosep Bineed.

Oh boy... There are sucker punches, ones which really take you down for the count in one blow, and then there are things like these which knock you out before you know what happened!
Volks are currently wrapping up their Dollfie Dream Festival event in Japan but one massive bit of news from the event is the next collaboration item. Yup, Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee from Macross frontier are getting the Dollfie Dream treatment! They had me in an uncomfortable position with KOS-MOS but this one is going to be even more unmentionable! My pride forbids me to pass up on this release. The army needs a new centerpiece!! No solid information on the items as of yet other than the existence of the project but expect more official news from Volks soon.
I don't think I have to say who I'm going to go for, right? What about you, readers? Are there any like-minded fans going for the plunge or will Ranka fans break cover to announce their allegiance?
