Cowabunga! GSC to produce some TMNT statues

Good Smile Company will be producing statues based on fine artist James Jean’s original rendition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The four statues' bases can be combined to create one large diorama.

Along with the already revealed Leonardo, prototypes for the remaining three turtle statues will be on display at the Good Smile Company booth (#422) during NYCC (which starts tomorrow?! Expect photos!).

Although I wasn't wowed by the art, the Leonardo sculpture looks surprisingly cool. As such, I'm looking forward to seeing the other statues (especially Donny, who has a great-looking pose in that art). No word on pricing yet (will they be cheap enough to tempt me?), but Leonardo is slated to be up for pre-order in the near future while the others will follow in 2015.

Sometimes there's more awesome than there is time and humble Tomopop editors can't get around to everything. As such, an explosively awesome recap is needed.

S.H.Figuarts Sasuke Uchiha gets some new shots

You've probably already heard by now, but the Naruto manga is now in it's final weeks, set to end at the beginning of November. Seems like bad timing for Bandai to be releasing Naruto figures, that might have a little something to do with Sasuke here being a Tamashii Web exclusive. But don't fret, Bluefin has us covered.

Over at the S.H.Figuarts blog they've posted a few more photos of Sasuke that, let's be honest, aren't incredibly flattering. Compared to the early photos his face and hair have lost some details. His hair isn't as pointy and now hangs over his eyes more. His facial features have gotten softer and in some shots almost translucent when compared to what was certainly a hand-painted prototype. Body sculpting still looks nice and despite the challenging legs they appear to be very well articulated so that's a big plus.

He won't be out for a few more months, late January/early February depending on where you go. Tamashii Web prices him at ¥5,184, but you won't be able to get it without some help if you aren't in Japan. On the other hand Bluefin has him priced at US$52.99 and if you go with, say, Amazon you might be able to get free shipping so that may be one of the better routs to take.

I am Groot and you can too by watching this video

This isn't so much a collectible as it is a unique art piece, but why should that stop anyone from lusting after it? What you're looking at is a wood carving of Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, made by artist Griffon Ramsey.

How did Griffon carve this? With a chainsaw, naturally. That's probably the best way to go about most endeavors. Check out this YouTube video if you want to see an awesome lady carve cedar.

This piece is actually for sale; you can get it for a mere US$875. Would you rather have this, or two Sideshow toys?
