RIP Hub: Discovery kills joint television venture with Hasbro
It was only a matter of time, but soon Discovery will be announcing the end of their joint television venture with Hasbro, the Hub Network. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Discovery will soon be taking over control of the network and is expected to rename it Discovery Family. The network was originally created to go head-to-head with the likes of Disney and Nickelodeon, but it never really found its place as a contender. Apparently the new network will be choosing shows that will appeal as much to the parents as the kids so hopefully we'll get some better things to watch on there than old reruns.
And if you're worried about what this means for the likes of Hasbro's own shows like My Little Pony or Transformers, don't. Sounds like Hasbro will still retain six hours of broadcast time every day so your Pony fix will remain intact. Incidentally, after this news broke stock in both Discovery and Hasbro went up so this may prove to have been a very smart move for both. The change is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of this year so it could be as soon as October.

Marvel Select Cable headlines back cover of September issue of Previews
Diamond Comics' new issue of PREVIEWS showcases Diamond Select Toys' Marvel Select Cable, just one of the many things I was excited to see at SDCC. It's probably worth he's also currently available for pre-order.
DST's Marvel Select Cable might be my favorite figure version of the character, in no small part because it gives Cable that proper bulky look. I suspect that the body armor might impede his movement but gosh darn does it look awesome.
DST's MS Cable can be pre-ordered for around US$25 and is slated for a March release.

Flock yeah! Hot Topic to carry a flocked Pop! Simba
VinylMation World has posted an image of an upcoming Hot Topic-exclusive flocked Pop! Simba. However, he's not the only upcoming Hot Topic exclusive as the retail chain will also be receiving a (far less exciting) black & white Pop! Loki.
Although I'm not the biggest Simba fan, I'm excited to see flocked Pop!s at normal retailers rather than just being convention or online exclusives (acknowledging that B&N *did* carry some SDCC exclusives but I missed my chance at a reasonably priced flocked Rocket Raccoon because I learned about that information too late). Hopefully this is the start of a trend where we'll see a lot of other Pop!s with flocked variants as well, including The Lion King's Scar, The Jungle Book's Shere Khan, etc.

A Beautiful Trio Of Mixed Media Victorian Collage Art Dolls - Meet Catherine, Chelsea, and Camille
Three of the mixed media Victorian collage art dolls I made recently were a trio of sisters that I named Catherine, Chelsea, and Camille.
Catherine, Chelsea, and Camille are a trio of sisters who are always competing with each other. Who is the smartest, who is the prettiest, who is the most dignified, who has the most handsome beau. You name it. They compete over it.
Catherine is a 2 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 14 1/2" mixed media Victorian wood doll with a paper face, sponge painted wood body, paper collage and embellished outfit. Her sides and back are sponge painted and her outfit is an embellished black and white paper collage adorned with white trim around her neck. Her paper collage dress has a two layer center band adorned with pearl dot, lace and ribbon trim and a beautiful pearl and silk ribbon flower decoration. Her waistband is two layers and is adorned with a lace trim and raised red dots. Her dress skirt is four layers and adorned with beautiful black decorative braid trim. A beautiful white crocheted shawl with black decorative fringe trim is wrapped around her shoulders and adorned with a black silk floral with white pearls. Her brown thick alpaca yarn hair from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber is wrapped in a bun and adorned with beautiful white crocheted trim. Black and white ribbon is wrapped around her sponge painted wooden base. A colorful 6 silk floral bouquet adds charm to both the front and back of her base.

Check out the Light Side of SE's Variant Play Arts Kai Darth Vader
Both Tomopop reader Kirin Lemon and Square-Enix's Hidemi Matsuzuka have tweeted photos showing the front side of Square-Enix's newly unveiled (unpainted) Variant Play Arts Kai Darth Vader (Star Wars) which is on display right now at Tokyo Game Show.
Despite the "Variant" label, Vader doesn't seem like a complete departure from his roots (or, at least, nowhere near as much as the likes of the other VPAKs). The upper torso looks a bit more buff and Vader's control panel is put further up along his chest (presumably to accommodate the somewhat ugly-looking joint). Vader's thighs, by contrast, are a great deal different from the normal design as the character almost seems to be wearing thigh-high boots with additional armoring protecting the inner thighs.
While additional differences may become more apparent when he's painted, it looks like Square-Enix didn't go crazy with this one. It might be a case of Disney/Lucas holding them on a tighter leash. At any rate, it's a pretty decent-looking design although the jointing currently looks a bit off.
Be sure to check out Kirin's and Hidemi's full images in the gallery.
