If there was any doubt about what Volks will be focusing for their future revenue streams before, this Wonder festival pretty much snuffed it out. after shuttering down the resin kit lines and slowing down news in general, it's become clear that they're banking completely on their Dollfie and Charagumin lines for their business profits.
This isn't a bad thing in itself but there are some concerns which may pop up later, such as the increased cost of using colour resin or the like but since charagumin is the focus for Volks at the moment, that's what we got a lot of! Many of the kits on display are returners who have been seen at previous events numerous times. Illya from Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya and Asuka from Evangelion 3.0 were shown in their completed forms and are relatively new additions but Volks have been showing them off on their website for some time so they don't feel new! Isara from Valkyria Chronicles is edging closer to completion but isn't there yet and I feel that I have to give Volks some credit for jumping on and making figures for shows before they make it big! Older collectors may remember that they were among the first companies to release a Hatsune Miku figure (or kit, in their case) and this was before the software was even released to the Japanese masses! Now, it looks like they've hit paydirt again with their early support of Love Live and Rail Wars! Love Live was supported early and now have gone through most of the cast! The kit of Sakurai Aoi from Rail Wars was first announced when the title was still just a light novel! Volks definitely seems to have an eye for likely breakout hits!
In any case, it was a pretty quiet show from Volks otherwise, although Kris told us that they held a workshop to help people get the most out of their charagumin figures, which was a nice touch. Eagle eyed readers may also notice an announcement of a kit of Hana from Captain Earth as well as possibly an Earth Engine Impactor kit as well. I guess we'll have to wait until Hobby Round to see what else they have up their sleeves in terms of figures and kits. Their next Dollpa should handle their other revenue stream...
Still, I'm hoping for another massively impressive 1/4 scale kit to blow me away. They've done it before so it's not outside the realm of possibility! Although I've pretty much given up hope on seeing the Selvaria Bles they teased back in Hobby Round 9
