Tomopop Review: Sentinel's RIO:Bone Buster Machine No.7

While Gainax's seminal mecha show Gunbuster has begun to get a bit more love from the figure world over the years (such as the rather excellent Super Robot Chogokin Gunbuster), it's sort-of-sequel Diebuster has mostly been left out in the cold. It's understandable since Diebuster is nowhere near as beloved as its forefather, but still a shame. So when ever anybody makes figures from the show, my ears prick up. That's why we're here today, to take a look at Sentinel's take on Diebuster's lead robot, Buster Machine No.7. Be warned, spoilers for the show will follow!

Kotobukiya redefine the human anatomy with Bishoujo Nina Williams

I've had a bad feeling about Bishoujo Nina Williams ever since we saw some brief prototype shots at WonderCon earlier this year. Now Kotobukiya have unveiled a gallery of the finish article and oh my god what is even going on?

Even leaving aside the fact that Nina appears to be presenting like a mandrill, this is one of the most ridiculous poses I've seen in a while. How is her spine not shattered into a million pieces? It's not like I'm digging the other bits of the figure either - the purple camo is pretty flat and dull, and the face is just off enough to look weird. But really, just glancing at this thing makes my back hurt. Talk about twisted.

Be prepared for Funko's Pop! Lion King and Bambi figures

$

Funko has released images of its upcoming The Lion King and Bambi Pop! figures. Previously seen at Toy Fair, the Bambi offerings consist of Bambi, Thumper, and Flower (I don't remember that skunk but it's been forever since I've seen Bambi). For the The Lion King, we have Simba, Scar, Pumbaa, Timon, and Rafiki.

While I probably have fonder (albeit fading...) memories of Bambi, Funko's The Lion King Pop! figures came out way cuter. Timon sports an adorable grin, Scar has a cute little sulk going on, and the Rafiki captures the character's personality. Although I like the Pumbaa, if I'm going to get a Funko Pumba it's definitely going to be the Disney Mystery Minis series 2 one.

Expect to these hit shelves in August.
