In a move sure to elicit a groan or two, Hidemi Matsuzuka unveiled two images of an unpainted Play Arts Kai Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Tifa. These photos come hot on the heels of a newly revealed PAK FFXII Fran where some readers have already drawn a comparison.
Now there are obviously three causes for dissent: firstly, anything Final Fantasy VII is vastly overrepresented in Square-Enix's line. Second, Tifa herself has received several figures in the past while other characters (including main cast members!) have been overlooked. Third, and perhaps most importantly, Advent Children Tifa ALREADY HAD a figure in the Play Arts line. Yes, I can understand the need for updated versions of these figures but can we at *least* hit the guys who haven't been produced already?
So far we've seen AC Yuffie, Vincent, and Red XIII (among others) get a revamp while others still haven't even gotten a vamp (bad pun). Granted, the new mold does look nice (and SE *did* give us a new character in the form of Rufus), but I assume I'm not alone in wanting Square-Enix to *finally* provide fans with a... Professor Hojo. Yeah, I know what the people want.
In Square-Enix's defense, the company seems to be pairing new things with proven moneymakers which might be what's needed for business. Plus the fact that FFXII was getting some new exposure is great news for the overlooked games and, as such, I really hope that we'll someday see a PAK Cecil Harvey (FFIV / Dissidia) or, less likely, a PAK Agrias Oakes.
