Disneys Frozen Invisible Ink Coloring Book
Disneys Frozen Invisible Ink Coloring Book
Disneys Frozen Invisible Ink Coloring Book - Purchased this for a friend's daughter (7 years old) because of her love of "Frozen" and my own fond memories of playing with invisible ink books on long car trips. Unfortunately, nostalgia clouds reason once again. She caught on to the concept of invisible ink quickly, and was diligent about not pressing too hard with the pen as instructed. But the invisible pictures are very large; it took a lot of coloring to fill them in. The colored pictures were limited in their spectrum and often smeared together. She completed about five pages before growing bored with the pen (which was also starting to lose some strength already) and turning to her crayons and pencils. She seemed much happier at being able to draw her own pictures in the blank spaces and having much more colors to use on the pictures. One positive point is that the quality of the images in the book are very nice and detailed and actually look like the movie characters. So as an invisible ink book, it might be okay to entertain a child for a short period -maybe on a shorter car trip or in a waiting room. As a long-term activity, don't count on it, unless you provide other coloring materials. Keep an eye on the invisible ink pen as well, as I don't think it could last through the whole book. -- By Amelie RenardBuy this Pre-kindergarten toys - Disneys Frozen Invisible Ink Coloring Book...

Bandai counters rising taxes with larger gashapon canisters
Normally those of us in the west don't feel the effects of Japanese sales taxes. Most stores that export from Japan don't bother to collect Japanese sales taxes which helps to keep their sales up and us buying more. You probably didn't even know the sales tax was going up until you tried to pre-order Wonder Festival figures from Good Smile Company's global store and found the prices had gone up compared the event prices.
Japan is seeing its first sales tax increase since 1997, going from 5 to 8 percent. In an already troubled economy companies are trying to find creative ways to sell their products. Bandai has come up with a clever solution by introducing higher priced Gashapon in in a new canister container. Since the ¥100 coin mechanism would be too hard to modify in their 400,000 machines to accept the smaller coins needed to cover the tax increase they chose to sell more complex figures in the canisters at a price that would cover the tax. Where traditional Gashapon come in a bubble for ¥100 to ¥200, the new Gashapon Can will feature larger figures at a price of ¥300 to ¥500.
The cans are only a little smaller than your average soda can at 10 cm (4 inches) long and a diameter of 6 cm (2.3 inches) which gives a lot of room for figures and models, sort of like similarly priced blind-boxed trading figures. Bandai is slowly modifying the current machines to accept the new canisters and hope to have 20,000 out on the streets of Japan by the end of 2014. In the meantime they'll probably take a ¥1 or more hit per figure on the remaining machines. That doesn't sound like much, but if each of the 400,000 machines were used once in one day that's a loss of at least ¥400,000 (about US$3,900) per day. In reality it's likely several times that every day so it's no wonder they're putting in such an effort to overhaul their machines.
The first toys to hit starting on March 31 will come from the new Ressha Sentai ToQger series. I'm looking forward to seeing what sorts of things they can come up with for the new price range. I mentioned models before because I think they can do something small and clever with Gunpla for ¥500. I'm sure they've got a lot planned and as they make more machines available they'll be able to do more. I'm looking forward to three or four years from now when they'll have converted most of their machines and be able to take more creative risks with their contents.

Funko's Disney Mystery Minis series 2 are an animated bunch
Official images for the second wave of Disney Mystery Minis, Funko's adorable blind-boxed figures, were revealed this week, giving fans plenty to drool over. The series takes beloved Disney characters, chibi-fies them, and places them in cute poses for our enjoyment. This time, Wreck-it Ralph, Timon, Pumbaa, Simba, Belle, Beast, Wall-E, Cheshire Cat, and Alice are featured. Some of the characters appear twice, in two different poses. Check out the gallery to see the whole roster. My favorites are the Beast with the toothy grin and the Pumbaa, laying down and looking upward.
Funko's Disney Mystery Minis Series 2 will be released on June 18 of this year. You can pre-order them now as a case of 24 blind-boxed figures (US$134.99) or individually (US$7.99).

Be it a triumphant "V for Victory", or a casual "kawaii"-gesture for an eternal snap, the notion of two raised fingers have a "dangerous" side to them too! Not to mention a hark back to ye days of lode, where "play" was not confined to fingers pushing on buttons on hand-held consoles or mobile phones ... Hand sculpted and cast with love, here's hoping you folks hit your targets dead-center! :)
