Doktor A's Colonel Rombus to debut at ToyCon UK
Doktor A will be back at ToyCon UK this year, and he's bringing along a new friend: Colonel Rombus. The newest piece from Dok is a fez-wearing robot who was once the leader of the Robotopolis army, but is now retired. He still likes to tell war stories, though ...
Originally, the colonel was a design for the Mini-Mechtorians Series 2 line, but the series got scrapped before they went past prototype stage. However, it's back, and is now a 6-inch figure (the Mini-Mechtorians were 3-inch figures), and I think that's a good choice. It's pretty easy to see why; a lot more detail has presumably been added to the 6-inch Colonel, especially around the gears sculpted onto the surface. We also get a real brass winding key on the back side and a real glass eye lens for the completed Colonel, probably thanks to that bigger size as well.
The first version of Colonel Rombus is a Coldcast Bronze colorway, though it's actually made of resin. A total of 50 pieces have been made in this variation, and 15 of them will be at ToyCon UK for £65 each. The other 35 will be available from Dok at a later date.

LEGO shows preview of their Simpsons minifigure series
After seeing LEGO’s version of The Simpsons’ house, I was excited to see what else would come out in this line. Now we have a look at their latest Simpsons minifigure series. Posted on their Facebook, there are 16 classic characters from the show included.
So you’ll see Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, Maggie, Itchy, Scratchy, Krusty, Nelson, Milhouse, Apu, Chief Wiggum, Mr. Burns, Ralph, Grandpa and Flanders. Each figure will come with an accessory that’s true to their character. Lisa has her saxophone, Maggie has Mr. Burns’ teddy bear, and Ralph Wiggum has his valentine from Lisa.
Unlike The Simpson’s house model, these aren’t incredibly expensive. They will be US$4 each, which is a price I can get behind. So buying every figure won't be such a hassle on your wallet. These minifigures are expected to come out in May.

“Coldcast Bronze” edition 'Colonel Rombus' by Doktor A (for #ToyConUK)
THE STORY OF COLONEL ROMBUS: "Now retired, the colonel was constructed to lead the army of Retropolis. To this day there has been no need for military action, though this doesn’t stop a perpetually sozzled Rombus telling tall stories of how he showed the natives a thing or two during his time in the Congo…
Originally designed for Mini Mechtorians toy series 2, Rombus got as far as a 3″ tall prototype before the project was cancelled.
Photos of that prototype resurface on the internet now and then and he has become a popular and much requested character."
Debuting at ToyConUK 2014 on April 12th will be the “Coldcast Bronze” edition of a new revised incarnation of the Colonel (Last teased here). Limited to an edition of 50pcs, 15 pieces of this 6-inch tall resin collectible will be available at Toycon for the price of £65 with the rest to follow soon online. Looks awesome. MUST. HAVE! :)
"Sculpted by Doktor A and hand cast and antiqued in England by Baroque Designs (who previously did such a splendid job with the Phizogs). This hefty solid piece features an inset glass eye lens and real metal Brass winding key. Each piece is signed and numbered by Doktor A."
Science Is Fun With Your Little Explorers
A Child – Your Best Teacher
I used to find it hard to believe, when people said ‘Oh, it all happened by accident’. How can you find something you love to do by accident? But one day, the same happened to me.
I had a great IT job and was very happy doing what I was doing. When I had a baby, I decided to quit my job. I had no idea what was in store. Initial years of staying at home were not easy. I felt I had never ending postpartum melancholy.
Luckily, as my kid grew older, I started enjoying doing things with him. From a Science background, it was natural for me to carry out experiments, whenever we would read science. I could see that my son was so much more involved when he was doing these by himself. That’s when the idea of a science club was born.
Your Little Explorers – My Little Science Club
I formally set up my science club in April - 2012 for kids, who are science enthusiasts. I started with 5 workshops for 5 days with 3 kids. Since then, there’s being no looking back. In the last 2 years, I have conducted 41 workshops and taught about 300 kids.
Our main motto is, ‘Tell me and I will forget - Show me and I will remember - Involve me and I will understand’. Science, per se, sounds very complex for kids. However they are experiencing science in their everyday life since a very young age, in the form of their toys, food, games and so much more.
Our topics are educational as well as fun.
In ‘Spylab’- kids get a chance to play a treasure hunt and learn forensic techniques.
We learn about Sound, Light and Gravity by making musical instruments, doing a shadow puppet show and making our own science toys.
Nothing is more fun than making a giant bubble and learning about chemical reactions.
‘Vegetable picnic’, ‘Space shuttle’, ‘Make a move’, ‘Arkidtecture’, all topics are equally exciting.
They also help kids improve their observation and problem solving reasoning.
Model making encourages their creativity.
