Relive the Buu saga through MegaHouse's Dragon Ball Z capsule toys

Dragon Ball Z toys make a lot of sense because who has time to sit through all those TV episodes anyway? MegaHouse is gearing up to release a series of eight capsule toys this June for ¥750 each, depicting scenes from the Buu saga of DBZ.

Each piece has a diorama look to it, which was a smart decision by MegaHouse. Figures of this nature don't usually stand out because they usually just show characters in a bland standing pose. These have more of a story to them: Goku powering up in his Super Saiyan 3 form, Goku and Piccolo attempting the fusion dance, Mr. Satan bathing Majin Buu, and so on. I will say though that Gotenks figure looks pretty derpy.

[NSFW] A true samurai needs no chest support, just ask Mataemon Araki

Wow, Kaitendo news! I haven't reported on them in, like, ever. They've caught my eye with this Mataemon Araki figure from Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride.

Although the historical Araki was definitely a man, this version is a busty, bra-less lady because of course she is. I also have a hunch that her oversized sword is not part of Araki's Yagyu Shingan-ryu curriculum.

Of course I'm just poking fun: there's no point getting worked up about the historicity of a fanservice anime. But you might want to get worked up over this sculpt, which consists of a beautiful face and a voluptuous physique! Mataemon Araki is up for pre-order now for ¥11,500 and is due out in June.

MegaHouse's Sorceress goes up for pre-order

Looks like tonight is boob night. Anyway, I'm pleased to report that MegaHouse's Sorceress is going up for pre-orders right now. I might actually like the back of this figure more than the front. The paint and sculpt look great either way, but the pose works better from behind. From the front it just kind of looks like she's stumbling around drunk, but that's just my opinion. I've seen a lot of drunk girls in my time.

The Sorceress is going for ¥9,950 MSRP but retailers have slashed that price with some nice discounts, meaning you won't necessarily have to break the bank for her. She'll be out in September.

DC Collectibles shows off upcoming Red Robin figure

If DC Collectibles seemed to lack "direction" in its upcoming 6-inch scale Teen Titan offerings, fans may be pleased to learn that the team will finally have a leader courtesy of a newly revealed Red Robin figure.

Red Robin (not to be confused with the burger joint of the same name) was the moniker adopted by Tim Drake (the third Robin) following... well, in the previous continuity it was after the third Batman (Dick Grayson, the first Robin) decided that he wanted to have Damian Wayne (not to be confused with Damon Wayans, although he would make a really cool sidekick...) as a sidekick thus making Damian the FIFTH Robin (Tim's girlfriend, Stephanie Brown (the third Batgirl), was the fourth). Confused yet? If not, bear in mind that the New 52 revamp tweaked some of that continuity.

Red Robin is probably the best-looking of the Teen Titans revealed so far, as the character has received a very solid headsculpt (Superboy's and Kid Flash's looked a little spotty) in addition to some decent sculpting and paint on the rest of him. That said, I'd like this one a lot more if he had better articulation as the figure seems to be a little lacking in that department.

DCC's Red Robin will presumably have a US$25 MSRP when he goes up for pre-order.

CM's Corporation files for bankruptcy

$

It's never nice when business dealings have to intrude into the hobby, but today is one of those days, as Yahoo Japan is reporting that noted figure manufacturer CM's Corporation filed for bankruptcy in the Tokyo District Court on March 3rd.

CM's were largely known for their extensive Gutto-Kuru range of poseable anime figures, but they also had interests in mecha, toy cars and scaled figures. The company blamed slow domestic sales and an inability to dispose of old stock. In particular they noted the decrease in demand following the Great Eastern Japanese Earthquake. At the time of the filing the company was over 400 million yen in debt which is...a big number, no matter how you look at it (it's almost 4 million US dollars).

Whether you liked their products or not, this is obviously terrible (and worrying) news for both the industry and for collectors. While it's possible that a deal is worked out to save the company, the numbers suggest liquidation is the most likely outcome. Obviously we wish the best to all employees and hope everyone involved comes out of this as unscathed as possible.
