  • 03/02/14--22:32: Reactor Shift Iron Man
  • I was sorting out my collection the other day, and then I realized I never got the regular, non-light-gimmick Iron Man Mark VI armor, which is odd since those have been sitting forever at discount stores.

Bob Conge from Plaseebo shares with us two custom submissions for two separate group shows, both of whom happens to launch on March 8th. For "The Crawling Dead" show at Toy Art Gallery, Bob introduces us to ZOMBIE BABY!
"The "Zombie Baby” is a one of a kind mash-up of the GID vinyl body from Miscreation Toys with a hand cast resin skull from Plaseebo. The skull has inset eyes and the body has been hand pierced and hand painted using Monster Kolor sprays. The figure also has 2 motion activated LED units with replaceable batteries and the body glows in the dark as well."

For The Total Atomic Meltdown show at CLUTTER Gallery, Bob offers up his "ATOMIC CHICKEN": "An 8” high one of a kind hand paint in hand cast resin. He comes with a pecked over die-cast Porsche 911SC and tasty driver."

Both pieces come signed and dated 2014 by Bob.

WHAT: "Mr Hublot lives in a world where characters made partially of mechanical parts, driving huge vehicles, rub shoulders with each other. A world where the giant scale of machines and the relentless use of salvaged materials reign supreme.

A withdrawn, idiosyncratic character with OCD, Mr Hublot is scared of change and the outside world. His solution: he doesn't step foot outside his apartment! The arrival of the dog Robot Pet will turn his life upside down: he has to share his home with this very invasive companion..." (via)

Mr Hublot is a short animated movie, written and directed by Laurent Witz (according to Stéphane Halleux's Universe) and Co-Directed by Alexandre Espigares. Produced by Produced by ZEILT productions, the short was nominated in the 86th Academy Awards for "Best Animated Short Film", and won! Congratulations! … I love it when existence of these shots gets illuminated by events such as the Oscars, where they might otherwise be missed… at least by myself :p

At the start of the 21st century, when the market became dominated by educational toys, funny situations had ensued. Some traders did not want "regular" products anymore. They were saying: "We will not order this teddy bear; the child cannot learn anything from it". What was the manufacturer doing in that situation? He was sticking the letters "A, B, C" on the soft toy and the product went on shelves.

Today it is not so simple anymore. Still many consumers demand educational value from toys, but it is no longer only about kindergarten or school level knowledge. In order to realize this we first have to stop for a moment and notice something so obvious that we do not perceive it on a day to day basis. Our life constantly changes. In contrast to what it used to be, on the priorities agenda there is a good job, your own apartment, and only then the child. Young peoples' stride toward self-reliance and financial independence has a lot of benefits. But it also has at least one disadvantage.

    03

Parents of a small child have a feeling that they can rely only on themselves. They prefer to search on internet forums than to ask their mother or father. There are also other changes. Life in major cities runs on a fast pace and appears to be full of dangers. We live in gated communities, accept the omnipresent CCTV, and feel insecure outside of the mobile coverage. We carefully read product labels to make sure that the contents will not harm us. We devote an exceptional amount of attention to children's security. But this is not the only thing we care for.

We want our younglings to have beautiful childhood memories. And we notice that in order to make it happen it is not enough to record every moment of their lives on a Smartphone. We wish our sons and daughters to be able to manage life. But will the mere ability to use tablet grant that?

We do everything to secure a successful future for our children. However, it starts to get to us that surrounding them with countless number of toys, which teach them to read, count and think logically is not sufficient. Up until recently parents were convinced that graduating from a good university and a specialist career will ensure a stellar future for their children. But new possibilities have appeared. Today one can be successful and enjoy prestige by being a chef, tailor or a carpenter. Or: one can fully enjoy life by combining a corporate job with a hobby such as cooking, sewing or do-it-yourself (DIY).

We arrive at a conclusion that in order for a kid to grow as a happy human they need to spend time with parents and share their emotions. They have to be able to preserve balance and share their emotions. They have to be able to preserve balance in their own life and the environment. Understand that they are one of the elements comprising the entire planet and that they can either improve or destroy it with their behavior.

How to prepare children for the life in the new reality? Teach him or her to enjoy small things. Help them to master new practical skills, which can be used throughout the entire adulthood. Kids love to play different roles - and if they have proper toys at their disposal, the fun is doubled. Let them explore new interests. And one more thing, if you really care about the child's development and you want to secure them a successful future, you need to realize a basic principle. Of all the toys, which help them reach their goal the best one is you.

I know that I've told you many times how proud I am of my baby sister and her beautiful wall art quilt designs. Every time she comes up with a new design I tell you that it's her best and can't be topped.Well, once again, she has outdone herself. This time it's "Calla" and it's eye candy. Don't you just love the colors? I know I do. It's just beautiful. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Here's what she said about "Calla:"

A few years back I took a photograph of the beautiful pink calla lilies in one of my gardens; that picture has hung in one of my rooms since.  I so enjoy that photo that it seemed to make sense to turn it into one of my art quilts.

"CALLA" is 18 pages containing a digital picture of the framed fabric wall art quilt, step-by-step digital picture instructions along with detailed written instructions for creating the art quilt; full size EASY TRACE pattern pieces for easy tracing onto iron-on transfer paper as well as instructions for creating the wood frame or dowel hanging.  A material list is on the back of the pattern cover.

I hope you enjoy creating "CALLA".

  • 03/03/14--04:00: DIY name garland
  • I love the saturated colors that paint chips can offer for craft projects. We always have a box of them on our supply shelves. This garland idea came from the need to brighten up by daughter’s new room, which she “hates” (her words). She sure knows all the right buttons to push to get her […]

S.H. Figuarts Sailor Moon was certainly one of the more eagerly anticipated figures of last year, causing a pretty mad pre-order scramble that you don't see too often. It was worth the hassle too as Natalie discovered in her review. Now those who missed out will get a chance to bring her home too, as Bandai have announced a re-release.

Due in June, this appears to be a perfect replica of the first run, right down to, er, the two extra face parts which were 'exclusive' to the first run. I'm not complaining though, as I always thought those sort of bonuses were dumb. She'll be out in June at the same price as before - ¥4,200. So if you missed out before, or feel like double-dipping, hit the links below!

Furry Feline Creatives' lovable, colorful friends will be making their way to London's premier toy expo, ToyCon UK, thanks to a collaboration with The Toy Chronicle. To mark the momentous occasion, Alvin and Cheri Ong created a limited edition Sir Ringo plush. This special handmade toy is decked out with a Union Jack on his frontside and a cape on his shoulders. He stands 12-inches tall and costs £30 each.

While Sir Ringo is technically a ToyCon UK exclusive, you can pre-order one for yourself from The Toy Chronicle's online store. Pre-orders will remain open until March 9, so don't forget to get your order in. He'll be shipped out in six to eight weeks. Alternatively, you can pick your order up at The Toy Chronicle's ToyCon UK booth. Or, if you want to gamble, you try to purchase Sir Ringo at the con. It should be noted that only a very limited amount will be stocked at the booth (aside from pre-orders).
