Copperhead puts the squeeze on the latest DCC solicits

$

DC Collectibles' latest batch of solicits is headlined by a Batman: Arkham Origins 3-pack featuring an unmasked Deathstroke, Copperhead, and Red Hood (Joker). The rest may evoke mixed excitement, as it includes the Pajama Party Harley Quinn first seen last week, some Earth-2 action figures (including the Hawkgirl we covered quite a while ago), a re-release of the Batman: Arkham Asylum figures from wave 1, a chess set and... a New 52 Orion!

While I still haven't played Batman: Arkham Origins (partly because I *still* need to get around to Arkham City), I'm still very excited to see the lithe Copperhead in figure form. Copperhead was an originally created assassin for Origins, a femme fatale apparently chosen to off-set the game's gender imbalance. Just like other versions of the character, this Copperhead is a contortionist although, unlike those other versions, she's a woman which makes that flexibility seem a lot hotter. I really like the look of the figure but she's unfortunately part of a 3-pack meaning you also have to get an unmasked Deathstroke and the Red Hood (Joker). If you're down for that, the set will run you US$55 which isn't a bad price for the trio. They're slated to release in August.

Another bit of exciting news was the New 52 Orion. Orion will come with his harness and his visor apparently has the option of flipping up. While the visor part of his helmet looks so-so, the face sculpt underneath is pretty neat. He'll run you around US$25, as will the Earth-2 Superman, Batman, and Hawkgirl. Look for them in August.

I'm also still liking the look of the upcoming Infinite Crisis figures. The Harley Quinn is nice lighthearted look at a character who has gone a bit... erm, more risque in recent years. The pajamas are a really fun look for the character, harkening back to an age when sex appeal wasn't forced onto the character. Also up for pre-order is an Atomic Age Green Lantern whose entire right arm is a wicked-looking energy construct. They'll be available for around US$40 each in August.

It's been a few years since Batman: Arkham Asylum swept the gaming world by storm and DC Collectibles followed it by producing a line of figures based on the property, but DC Collectibles is once again cashing in on the game's fame. This time the company is re-releasing the now somewhat difficult to find first wave of Arkham Asylum figures, which is great news for those who haven't picked them up yet as they could get pricey on the aftermarket.  The four figures are being sold as a set this time around for US$60 and will apparently feature a revised deco of some sort. They're due out in July.

Besides the highlights mentioned above, there are a few other items included in the solicits. Anything catch your eye this time around, folks?

Check out the World Premiere of the first trailer for MARVEL's Guardians of the Galaxy live-action feature film adaptation of a comicbook, and looks to be an entertaining ride thru the cosmos indeed!
"In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. In order to evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a group of misfits including Gamora, Rocket, Drax the Destroyer and Groot. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance." Look, I know she's supposed to be "Zoe Saldana", but she looks like "Rihanna" here!

Oh look! Wisecracking american Jock! (with a "heart of gold", of course)

Don't worry, folks'll get tired of the Raccoon-schtick soon enough...

I will NOT say anything negative to his face...

Toy Fair 2014: More Transformers from Hasbro

When it comes to Transformers it can't all be collectibles. One thing Hasbro made clear was a dividing line between toddlers, young kids, and adult collectors. That's not to say you can't just buy whatever you want, I sure don't care what I buy. Hasbro probably knows that, too, since much of the stuff they've made for the youngest kids is either G1 based (way before their time) or TF4 based (a PG-13 movie).

And they had so much stuff this time around including a surge in Kre-O sets and the previously Marvel-only Hero Mashers. We've already seen all of the great stuff Hasbro has planned for the Generations line, follow me after the jump to see what else they've got coming later this year.

Oodles Of Fun With Cheeky Monkey

01

Our Childhood Rocked

Kiran and I (Neeti) are both stay-at-home moms. We often remember our carefree childhood which was filled with fun, and laughter. We use to derive pleasure from the simple things. We were both tomboys and had a whale of a time, when we were young. It was all about climbing trees, playing outdoors, making mud cakes, converting the dining table into a table tennis table…Ah, the list is endless…

03

Being Moms

Motherhood was a new and lovely experience. We both left our corporate jobs to be full time moms to our super naughty kids (and we love them for that). Our kids were our inspiration for starting Cheeky Monkey.

05

Birth Of Cheeky Monkey Kids

Cheeky Monkey was born from our hearts. As mothers, we felt that whenever our kids attended workshops it was very theory driven and monotonous. The fun and madness one associates with kid activities was missing. Cheeky Monkey started simply because we wanted to conduct workshops for kids which they would thoroughly enjoy. Moreover they would explore for themselves, and have a stupendous fun time attending. We feel that best learning happens when kids are having fun and childhood is the time when one should be enjoying themselves the most.

We realized that being moms ourselves, we understood what worked well for kids and that we could offer so much in terms of kid activities. So armed with a lot of enthusiasm we launched Cheeky Monkey in Aug 2012, in Bangalore.

02

Life as an Entrepreneur- Cheeky Monkey Kids

At Cheeky Monkey, our focus is to conduct workshops and activities. Here kids can have oodles of fun, laughter, and learn something new each day.
The fun-tastic activities that Cheeky Monkey offers includes kids cooking, recycle art and craft, creative dance, nature walks, stranger danger and kids self-defence classes, treasure and scavenger hunts, games, mischief, mayhem and more.

Trillium Blues Mini - New E-Pattern by Inspired Creations By D

In April of 2011 my baby sister decided to combine her love of quilting with her love of gardening and started designing floral wall art quilts for Inspired Creations By D. Her first quilt design was called "Trillium Blues" which I absolutely loved and posted about here. It had the most beautiful blue colors to it and had my mother's, my, and baby sister's favorite color - blue.

So, of course, I dropped a lot of hints about how lovely it would look in my house. But, I wasn't the only one dropping hints. Her step-son did too. Since the original Trillum Blues was too big to fit in his house she designed two much smaller versions: one with a wood frame and one dowel hung. Since she was creating two mini versions of "Trillium Blues" she decided to create a new e-pattern so you could create a smaller version of your own.

The wood frame mini wall art quilt is going to her step-son. Lucky guy.  I, of course, keep dropping hints about the dowel hung one and how beautiful it would look in my house. My pleas keep falling on deaf ears. My sister thinks it would look beautiful in her house, too and already has a place in mind for it.

I keep hoping that she'll take pity upon her "older" "big" sister who hit a milestone "old lady"  birthday this year and give it to me.  I'm hoping........

It would look wonderful in my house.......  baby sister, hint-hint!

Come on now, you know you want to give it to me.........

Here's what she said about her mini quilt:

My youngest stepson wanted a Trillium Blues for his home but he did not have a space big enough for the original Trillium Blues so I simply created a more compact size.  The original was 28"x 33" but this Trillium Blues "Mini" is 19" x 19"; a perfect size for a smaller space.  It has all the same beautiful cobalt blues, white trillium and of course, the butterfly, as the original did.  Perhaps this will fit in a smaller spot for you as well!

"TRILLIUM BLUES MINI" is 16 pages containing a digital picture of the framed fabric wall art quilt, step-by-step digital picture instructions along with detailed written instructions for creating the art quilt; full size EASY TRACE pattern pieces for easy tracing onto iron-on transfer paper as well as instructions for creating the wood frame or dowel hanging.  A material list is on the back of the pattern cover.

I hope you enjoy creating "TRILLIUM BLUES MINI".

Prepare for an epic voyage with the LEGO Nautilus

While complete separate from yesterday's LEGO Lit scenes, this custom build brings to life yet another piece of classic literature. Bricksmith Alex Jones, AKA Orion Pax, put together the Nautilus, from Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The LEGO Nautilus is 4 feet, 7 inches long and 10 inches wide. According to Jones, this puts it at the scale of the model used in the 1954 movie. He also included an interior with Captain Nemo's organ and couches. It even has LEDs on the exterior of the ship!

Man, this is what I love about LEGO. Give a guy a couple of weeks and a bunch of bricks and you can build something like this. He's even got little a set of LEGO dudes to go with the Nautilus. I'd love to see something like this done officially. Hell, just make a line of classic vehicles and ships. They'd have my money, stat.

What Should I Make? New Xmas Fabric Design

$

0

As you all know I just LOVE designing fabrics and have several ideas in my head for some new holiday designs.  Several of those designs revolve around Xmas festivities so when Spoonflower.com asked me if I wanted to test a swatch of their new Silk Faille fabric I jumped at the chance to test one of my new Xmas fabric designs.

I ordered the fabric design above which is an 8.0"3 by 8.03" design and received my swatch the end of January.

Here's what Spoonflower.com said about their Silky Faille:

Silky Faille

100% polyester fabric
54" wide printable area (137 cm)
White, 4.4 oz per square yard
Thread count: 145 x 73
Light-to-medium-weight, with excellent draping properties
Crisp, bright color that washes well
Appropriate for drapes, dresses, blouses, and scarves
Estimated shrinkage: 2-3%
Wash separately in cool or warm water using a gentle machine cycle. Machine dry using a low temperature setting. If required, use an iron with a light touch on a synthetic setting only. Higher iron temperatures may result in color transfer and melting of fabric.

I have to tell you that I love the fabric.  It's very silky but not too thin and the colors are amazing.  The question is what should I make with my 8" by 8" swatch? Any ideas?
