pom pom valentines to make and give
Birdie’s school has a no-candy rule when it comes to Valentine’s day, and I love it. Every year we use it as an opportunity to make something a little extra special for all of her friends in her class. This year, we’re combining my printable valentines with some retro-inspired pom pom creatures. They’re like pom […]

Wonder Festival 2014 Winter: Lady Liberty goes wild
Has Liberty ever looked this good? Takara Tomy Arts has put together a very different take on the USA's Statue of Liberty in a series of capsule figures that show the iconic landmark's fun side.
Poses range from what our editors have colorfully dubbed "draw me like one of your French girls!" (Titanic) to "Cornhoolio" (Beavis and Butthead). As far as parody figures go, these are really neat. My favorite is probably the one where Lady Liberty is just reclining and reading her tablet although I also really like the "draw me" pose.
The placard in the case features an ad for the series which pokes fun at the notion of freedom, the most humorous being "be free from the idea of 'free' itself". Is that the snake biting its own tail or what?
There's apparently also a series coming out based on Rodan's "The Thinker" (see gallery) which, while also amusing, doesn't quite match the humor seen in the Lady Liberty set.

Wonder Festival 2014 Winter: Anime Garage Kits (part 1)
The Wonder Festival coverage is winding down now so what better time to take a look at the dealer floor of the event and the garage kits on display?
Of course, much like the corporate booths, there was a massive elephant in the room (which will be addressed later) but the showing was pretty strong this time around. The highlight for myself was the new Asuka on racing bike by veteran GK maker, Vispo. This is his third Asuka in this design and there's no reason not to believe that Rei will follow but his first version is one of my favourite Asuka kits and one which I own. The second wasn't so great in my eyes but this is a great return to form.
There's also a great Charlotte kit with her IS semi deployed. She's by far my least favourite girl in the show but I'd love to see the others in a similar form so long as the basis is from the existing artwork from the light novels. Other manufacturers have also latched onto this idea for their next releases (there's already a prototype for Houki but it's based on the new artwork which is, quite frankly, naff!). Elsewhere, Girls und Panzer is still having a strong showing of kits along with Attack on Titan and Suisei no Gargantia joining the fray.
And don't miss out on the awesome badassery that is Mr Chang from Black Lagoon! He's so awesome, the scenes instantly look great just by him being there.
That's it for part 1 of the anime garage kit gallery. Which ones caught your attention?

VIDEO: The Lego Movie Trailer - I'm Batman!
Filmation's 1968 TV Cartoon Series THE ADVENTURES OF BATMAN is Coming to DVD
The Adventures of Batman was an American animated television series produced by Lou Schiemer's Filmation studios. The shorts were broadcast as part of The Batman/Superman Hour in 1968. Over-the-top characters and catchy dramatic music cues gave this version of Batman a realistic look and feel-by cartoon standards of the day.
As you surely know by now, Warner is working on finally getting the 1966 live-action Batman series, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, to DVD at long last, sometime later this year. And you may recall that back in 2007, Warner Home Video released The New Adventures of Batman - The Complete Series on DVD, which was a Filmation-produced animated version starring the voices of West and Ward as cartoon versions of Batman and Robin.
However, back when the live-action Batman was still airing on ABC, there was a different Filmation-produced animated show broadcasting on CBS: The Adventures of Batman, with longtime character actor/voice actor Olan Soule as "Batman/Bruce Wayne," Casey Kasem as "Robin/Dick Grayson" and Ted Knight as "Commissioner Gordon." These 34 cartoons first aired in 1968 as part of The Batman/Superman Hour, then re-ran in 1969 as the 17 episodes of "The Adventures of Batman."
Today Warner Home Video has announced that all 34 installments (17 episodes) from Filmation's The Adventures of Batman will be released on DVD this coming June 3rd. The 2-disc set will cost about $19.99, and the package art is shown up above.
Oh yeah, here are the episodes:
"How Many Herring in a Wheelbarrow?"/ "A Bird Out of Hand"
"The Cool, Cruel Mr. Freeze"/ "The Joke's on Robin"
"Bubi, Bubi, Who's Got The Ruby?" / "Opera Buffa"
"The Nine Lives of Batman"/ "In Again, Out Again Penguin"
"The Big Birthday Caper"/ "Long John Joker"
"The Crime Computer"/ "1001 Faces of the Riddler"
"Partners in Peril"/ "Two Penguins Too Many"
"Hizzoner The Joker" / "The Underworld, Underground Caper"
"Will The Real Robin Please Stand Up" / "Freeze's Frozen Vikings"
"Simon the Pieman"/ "The Great Scarecrow Scare"
"My Crime is Your Crime"/ "Beware of Living Dolls"
"From Catwoman With Love" / "He Who Wipes The Ice, Goes To The Cooler"
"A Game of Cat and Mouse"/ "A Mad, Mad Tea Party"
"A Perfidious Pieman Is Simon"/ "Perilous Playthings"
"The Fiendishly Frigid Fraud" / "The Cool Cruel Christmas Caper"

Wonder Festival 2014 Winter: Video Game Garage Kits
Next up on our garage kit view list, we have the video game garage kits. There were a fair few kits from the usual suspects. Titles like the touhou games and Idolm@ster continue to have kits of their characters pushed at Wonder Festival but there was also a resurgence of more retro titles this time around.
First up is the impressive kit of Strider Hiryu, no doubt influenced by the new game which is due to be released later this month. However, we also get more robot master kits this time along with Bass and Treble and we even get a kit of Impact from the Goemon/legend of the mystical ninja series, not to mention not one but two kits of Nina from the Breath of Fire series! Two different kits for two versions from different games (I think it's breath of fire 2 and 3). Elsewhere, there was a re-release of a kit of Jam Kuradoberi from Guilty Gear X and numerous Dragon's Crown and Hyperdimension Neptunia kits as well. Kokonoe doesn't look too happy though. Don't worry hakase, when the new patch comes out and you get nerfed to hell and back, you'll be back to being legit (and probably low tier)!!
