After popping up at MegaHobby Expo late last year, Megahouse's take on Marika Katou from Bodacious Space Pirates is now painted up and ready for ordering. As opposed to earlier versions of her, she's portrayed in her look from the upcoming Abyss of Hyperspace movie, which means lashings of scarlet instead of her more traditional black look.
If there's one thing that stands out about this figure it's the unique pose, where she appears to be sitting on her own base. It's a cool little party trick that makes the design really pop. There's also the big fluttering cloak to consider, although I have to say personally I find her red design a little overwhelming. I'm intrigued to see how the whole thing stays upright too - the release shots don't show it, but I assume there has to be another base, or at least a stand for her to stay upright.
Marika remains a really great design and Megahouse continue to improve with each new release. If you feel like a little buccaneering, Marika will cost a tidy ¥9.800 and will be sailing your way in August.

Four years ago, Hot Toys unleashed its 1/6-scale Whiplash figure, featuring Mickey Rourke's distinct likeness, and it was pretty good. So what could be better? How about a Whiplash Mark II figure?
That's exactly what Hot Toys is showing off next as part of its Movie Masterpiece Diecast series, and you get more than just a diecast armored exterior. Whiplash will be sporting his trademark whips, complete with translucent part effects and light-up effects; LED illumination; the usual Hot Toys articulation; and a removable magnetic mask plate. Just take a look at the gallery and you'll see that it looks pretty darn awesome.
Pre-orders are opening up now for the new Whiplash, with a price point at US$399.99 and a release date of sometime in the first two quarters of 2015. That's almost a year off, but do you think the wait will be worth it?

Hello and welcome back to a very busy Tomopop LinkUP! I suppose that title is worthy of a little explanation. You see, back in the heyday of anime fansubs there was a number of speed subbers that were notorious for their nonsensical translations. In one case a line in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex talking about children being abducted by the mafia was translated as "Are you aware of the frequent occurrences of the mass naked child events within the country?" by a particularly awful fansub group. For a time the phrase "mass naked child events" became a meme referring to terrible translations.
When you think about it, Wonder Festival really is a mass naked figure event. Let's face it, most of the figures we'll be drooling over the pictures of this weekend probably won't be wearing a lot of clothes. And yes, some of them will indeed be naked, or pretty near it, especially if some of the previews in this edition of LinkUP is anything to go by. Plus we've got some other stuff to gawk at like videos, an interview, and various other things all after the jump!

Sons of Anarchy Jax Teller Collectible Figure Coming From Gameforged
G.I. Joe celebrates its 50th - that's right, FIFTIETH - anniversary this year. The line got its start in early 1964 as an 11.5-inch articulated figure with 21 moving parts. The figures were intended to honor military veterans, many of whom worked at Hasbro, so the company "decided to outfit the toy in the uniforms of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, with such accessories as guns, helmets and vehicles".
The idea is credited to Don Levine, a Korean war veteran who served as the company's head of research and development at the time, who is occasionally referred to as the "father of G.I. Joe". Despite ultimately becoming one of the most iconic toy lines, the product wasn't in Hasbro's usual mold so it took years to get approval although the figure was a best-selling item in the Christmas of 1964.
"Most boys in the '60s had a father or a relative who was or had been in the military," said Patricia Hogan, curator at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, home to the National Toy Hall of Fame. "Once you've bought Joe, you need to buy all the accessories and play sets and add-ons, which was great for business."
More after the jump.
