Chara-Ani surprises us with an adorable Fuuka Ayase
One of the figure industry's greatest crimes is that there's not more figures based on the cast of Yotsuba&!. Kiyohiko Azuma's adorable manga about the life of a five year old girl is universally beloved among people who have things such as hearts or human emotions, and it's a big hit too, so it's always seemed weird that (apart from the excellent Revoltechs) there haven't been many figures.
Completely out of the blue though, Chara-Ani is stepping up to try and buck that trend, by announcing this rather lovely figure of bumbling schoolgirl Fuuka Ayase, Yotsuba's teenage friend and occasional prank victim, dressed up in her summer uniform. They've done a great job too, capturing Azuma's clean and concise art style while adding in some nice bits of detail - check out the charms hanging from her bag or the cloth of her shirt bunching around the strap. There's only so much you can do with a relatively simple character design, but Chara-Ani appear to have executed well.
What's more, they aren't messing about with a long buildup - Fuuka's up for preorder today! It's an interesting tactic - considering it's unlikely to be a blockbuster, Chara-Ani have probably opted to just throw it out there and see how it does. I'm hoping it's a solid seller, because it looks great and because if it does well there's the tantalising prospect of an entire range. What with our Danboard strap preview earlier, it's turning into a good day for Yotsuba fans. If you've got room for Fuuka in your home, she'll be ¥8,000 and heading your way in March.
