Shawnimals's Fuzzy Friday sale features very special toys

Perfect for such a cuddly company image, Shawnimals calls their Black Friday sale "Fuzzy Friday." The event looks to be one to watch forward to for fans of designer toys. Not only will every visitor be able to get 20 percent of their total order from the Shawnimals online store all weekend (from November 29 to December 1) with the coupon code "FUZZITUP20," but the first fifteen customers to use coupon code "FUZZDAY30" on November 29 get 30 percent off.

The fun is just starting with the discounts but the party really gets going with the three special holiday exclusives that will be made available on Black Friday, excuse me, Fuzzy Friday. The toys were previewed as blurry images on November 7, with one toy revealed each week. The first is a pepperminty Holiday Pocket Pork Dumpling. The little delicacy even has a beard and santa cap. No word on edition size or price for this one. Then there's the handmade plush Coachstachio. Sporting some pretty nifty sunglasses, a scarf, and an mustache (it's like mustache Inception), this fellow is limited to 25 pieces at US$50 each. The final release will remain a mystery until the unveiling next week. Any guesses?

And for those in the Chicago area, Shawnimals is hosting its second annual Open House on December 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There promises to be drinks, snack-ish things, and tons of fun stuff, like prototypes and rare finds available for purchase. Plus, the first 25 people to attend get a goodie bag. You can find more information here

Kids are always begging for pets, especially around the holidays. “Can I have a puppy?” “I want a pony!” I’m sure you’re hearing it all. But if you’re not ready to make that huge commitment to a pet and a messy house (and perhaps all of the dog-walking responsibilities), new technology that’s available is truly brining [...]

Minecraft Cookie Cutters

Normally wouldn’t post anything related to home baking since I can’t do it myself, but I’ve been thinking of cookies since I woke up today and stumbled across this. ThinkGeek is selling officially licensed Minecraft cookie cutters for $20. I actually think they’re pretty cool and the tin they come in are neat as well, granted you can actually bake and craft icing lines into shape, which is something I can’t do for the life of me.

PlayStation 4 Finally Bundled With PS Vita

In the United Kingdom, at least. MCVUK reported that Sony will indeed be bundling the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita together, while VideoGamer.com posted an image from MCV, proving that Sony has this lined up for this December. No word on pricing for the UK and absolutely no word on this bundle coming to the US at the moment, but I’m sure we’ll see it soon.

Getting Cosy With Steiff's Delightful And Rare Sleeping Siamese Cat

It's easy to feel sleepy alot of the time around these parts, with the average daily temperature plunging, and the sun going down a little after 4 pm every day!  So the timing seemed more than perfect to welcome the arrival of a new Steiff slumbering friend to Steiffgal's collection.  Take a look at this adorable dozing cat and see what makes her so dreamy - no pun intended - from the both the collector and historical perspectives.

Care to have a snuggle with this Steiff rarity? Here we have the company's unusual and seldom seen Cosy Siamy Katze or Cosy Siamy Cat. She is 17 cm, unjointed, lying down, and made from fuzzy tan dralon that has been highlighted with tan airbrushing on her arms, legs, face, and back. Her face is detailed with a pink hand embroidered nose and mouth, as well as clear monofilament whiskers.  Her muzzle and the back of her ears are made from slightly shorter dralon.  And just how can we be sure that she is sleeping?  Her closed stitched eyes all but insure a perfect night sleep - every night!  As to be expected, Cosy Siamy is exceptionally soft and cuddly.  Sleeping Siamy was produced from 1959 through 1961 in 17 cm only.

It's like a slumber party when it comes to Steiff's delightful "sleeping style" animals.  The company produced a great number of these designs during the 1950's through the 1970's. These included a Zotty Teddy and panda bear, fox, Cocker Spaniel, tabby cat, seal, poodle, elephant, a Leo, and others. They were all prone in position and referred to as "floppy" or "cosy" animals. Most were made in two standard sizes, 17 and 28 cm; all were stuffed with soft foam. Each animal had sleeping style eyes, meaning that the eyes were designed to appear closed and at peace. All of these delightful bedtime companions were simplified versions of well-known and popular Steiff animal designs of the time.

Cosy Siamy could be considered the cat's meow of Steiff's sleeping animals.  And why is that?  First, sleeping animals were based on current Steiff favorites, yet the original Siamy Siamese cat made her final appearance in the Steiff catalog in 1954 - a full five years before being introduced as a sleeping model.  Second, Cosy Siamy was made for no more than three years, while most of the other models were made for significantly more time - some for decades!  And finally her size.  She was only made in the small size, while most of the other models were produced in the large and small size.  All of these things contribute to her rarity and in turn, interest to collectors.

Steiffgal hopes this discussion on Cosy Siamy has been as refreshing as a delightful afternoon's nap!

Phew! Where did the time go?

It's hard to believe it's been over a month since I last blogged. There has been a lot going on in the past month, that's for sure!

I'll share some of the highlights with you, one of which was the trip out to Cincinnati in mid-October with some of my Plush Team peeps for Cincinnati's first ever Maker Faire, and there was Halloween plush, and Wizard of Oz themed plush made somewhere in there, AND a trip to LA for the opening of Ben's solo art show as well. Hmmmm... I think I'll restrict the size of this post by limiting it to the events of Maker Faire weekend in order to spare your eyeballs. ;D

The trip to Cincy was a blast, and even though the weather was uncooperative (cold and rainy), we had a great day of sales, classes, and promoting hand made. A HUGE thanks to Abby of Abbydid for being our Team plush wrangler and supply depot, and for being our tour guide. I'd also like to thank AC of Hibou Designs, Diane of Cutesy But Not Cutesy, Zazu of zfla, and Stephanie of Little Critters for traveling out to Cincinnati to help run the booth and teach classes. You ladies ROCK! :D
Here are a few of the images from the weekend:

Doing prep-work the night before the big day (Friday October 18th):

From left to right: Zfla, Abbydid, Hibou Designs, Cutesy but not Cutesy, and Little Critters.

Plush Team booth set-up happened on Saturday at a very windy, rainy and chilly 8:30 am on October 19th- we were cold and wet, but got everything set up just in time:

Here's our booth all finished and ready to go, and filled with all sorts of plush created by 20 different members of the Plush Team from around the globe:

The Art Gallery and classroom side of the Team's booth:

These are art pieces created by various Plush Team members, which are created for Team Challenges, or for gallery shows, and show the wonderful skills of the members of the Team.

This is the quilted world map showing where all our Plush Team members are currently living and creating their plush; which hung above the very busy "make your own upcycled stuffed animal class" table. Classes that went all day long, and were taught by Zazu of zfla, shown here in her bright blue coat amongst all her students:

It was a whirlwind weekend in Cincinnati, but we had a great time and the people we met were really great and made the day a good one. Thanks Cincinnati!

I also had the good fortune to stay a few days longer to do a bit of sight-seeing, and to step inside one of the icons of my childhood, which was the Hall of Justice from the Super Friends cartoon (OMG!!), which in reality is the amazing Art-Deco designed Union Terminal in Cincinnati. I was like a little kid clapping my hands with glee as we walked around the building! It was amazing, and photos don't really do it justice (pun intended ;D), but here are a few anyway:

The terminal now houses a bunch of different museums, as well as Amtrak, making it a must-see if you are ever in the Cincinnati area. Abby was kind enough to show me around this amazing building, and I have to say it was one of the highlights of any trip I've taken so far. :D

That's all for now, and I hope that you all had a great Halloween, and a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday to come if you are American. Hopefully it won't be another month before I post again... See you soon!
