Charting Sideshow Collectibles' upcoming 1/6 Nathan Drake
Sideshow Collectibles has launched a preview gallery for its upcoming 1/6 scale Nathan Drake figure (based on the character's appearance in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception). The figure will be available in both a standard and a Sideshow Exclusive version. Pre-orders open tomorrow.
The Uncharted series is among the most impressive gaming franchises today, effectively catapulting Nathan Drake to the status of a modern-day Indiana Jones and even teasing the fabled prospect of an Uncharted film (which may ultimately turn out to be more fleeting than an Atlantis of the Sands). Of course, a franchise this awesome absolutely needs merchandise to appease its fan-base (which includes Tomopop editors who have platium'd all three console releases) and Sideshow has delivered with their decidedly cool 1/6 scale Nathan Drake.
While I usually prefer smaller scales for adventurer collectibles (since everything around them will look bigger as a result), the 1/6 scale format provides extra detail as well as the option for actual fabric-material clothing which adds realism to posing. The figure is billed as coming with his 9mm pistol and an assault rifle. The Sideshow Exclusive version will additionally come with a spider accessory (while I remember the spiders, I don't recall them being that big...).
Look for the pre-order tomorrow.

Star Saber wins Japanese Masterpiece Transformers poll
Takara Tomy has ended thier Fan's Choice Transformers Masterpiece campaign asking fans to vote on the next Autobot leader to get the Masterpiece treatment and we now have our winner! Star Saber from japanese series Transformers Victory has been selected by fans out of 11 possible choices by earning a major 31.2% of the votes. For a lot of fans this seemed like the obvious choice; what wasn't so obvious was who made it into second place: Micron Densetsu Convoy (Armada Optimus Prime). Guess people really wanted to see how they'd articulate his legs. Third place went to Super Ginrai (Powermaster Optimus Prime) from Transformers Masterforce which would have gotten my vote for sure. It goes way downhill from there for the rest of the entries.
The results look like this:
- Star Saber - 31.2%
- Micron Densetsu Convoy - 24.3%
- Super Ginrai - 18.6%
- Dai Atlus - 8%
- Super Fire Convoy - 4.9%
- Beast Wars Convoy - 4.6%
- Galaxy Convoy - 2.5%
- Big Convoy - 2.1%
- Lio Convoy - 2%
- Grand Convoy - 1.5%
- Fortress Maximus - .3%
Guess nobody wants to pay around US$500 for a Masterpiece Fort Max. I'm sure these results won't stop many of these from getting the Masterpiece treatment eventually. A number of sketches were also reveals by Takara Tomy that might give us some idea of what Masterpiece Star Saber will look like. Of course we can't have Star Saber without Victory Leo; how long before that one happens?

Gunpla Expo 2013 kicks off with numerous announcements
It's that time of the year where the latest and greatest new Gunpla are revealed to the world. Even with the new series Gundam Build Fighters, there is still Episode 7 of Gundam Unicorn and plenty of momentum for the HG All Gundam Project. All that said let's run down the announcements.
Real Grade will depart from the CE and enter the AD with Gundam 00's Gundam Exia. Rolling out in April of 2014, the Exia will be the first from the series to receive the RG treatment. (Set your bets now for when the Trans-Am or Repair variants get released!)
Going to the current of Gundam Build Fighters, a series I've enjoyed purely for mech designs, the lineup of Gunpla will expand to the Master Grade line. Shown off at Gunpla Expo are the three lead Gunplas: Build Strike Gundam Full Package, Build Gundam Mk II, and the Sengoku Astray. The three haven't been given release dates as of yet, but expect Spring of 2014.
There's a lot more to talk about, so follow the jump for the rest of the news!
