Anime Festival Asia Singapore on 8,9 10 November 2013 @ Suntec City Convention Center
And while I may have left out blogging about Anime Festival Asia Indonesia- which happened over the weekend - what is not to be missed, is the Singapore-leg of AFA, which happens this coming 8,9,10th NOVEMBER 2013 @ the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre!
And while I am not looking forward to the single elevators at both ends of the hall leading up to the event halls (for all I know they might have been upgraded after the renovations at Suntec lol), it might serve as a more opportune location, after last year's location at Singapore Expo. Hoping "Food Republic" is still operational at the ground floor tho lol
Me? I am looking forward to the Japanese toys, no b.s. - having had a whale of a time last year, scoring my first "Tiger and Bunny" S.H.Figuarts action figures, and the Hello Kitty x Kamen Rider mask (which has since cracked *sob*). Looking forward to be seeing some products for "Attack On Titan" tho! See you folks at Suntec!

R.I.P. MAMAFAKA
I had the honor and opportunity to meet Pharuephon Mukdasanit aka MAMAFAKA back in 2010, when I was in Thailand for CLEA, but had barely been able to chat with him at all (besides that one-time online interview), as the hustle and bustle of the event caught both him and his team-mate Kenji Chai busy with their design submissions, which saw them take the championship title that year too.
Forward to 2012, when I survived Stroke and ventured forth to Thailand again, I had narrowly missed meeting him / seeking him out that one day I was able to, but could not (thinking to score Chucks from him too…)
(Click on image above to view his works on Facebook / portrait via)
Then today I saw my Facebook-stream with condolences of his passing, which boggled my mind, as I dashed off to the hospital, for the start of my dad's treatment. Now back home, the story begins to unfold, with the mention that he had passed (after a few days in ICU) due to a surfing mishap.
"Mortality" is a concept that transcends age, and embraces anyone at anytime regardless of race and religion, and one is left to grasp at his/her legacy left behind, in their passing. He was gone far too young, and the world looses yet another vibrant and inspirational artist, IMHO. Shown directly below is an image of turnarounds for his collectible to be made with Mighty Jaxx;
And while his work is what we see and blog about, it does not necessarily define who he is, to his family and friends. And for that, my heart goes out to them.

A peek at Play Imaginative's STGCC wares
Play Imaginative was one of several companies who showed up at Singapore Toy, Games and Comics Convention this year, and it was a good place to be if you like their licensed lines. Not only were their Disney and DC Comics vinyl figures on display, they brought the Super Alloy mother lode, too. New to the show were the 1/12-scale Hammer Drones from Iron Man 2 and the appearance of both Cyborg and Flash 1/6-scale Super Alloy figures. Even DEVILROBOTS showed up for a meet-and-greet session with their fans in Singapore!
Check out the gallery below for a few shots of some of the collectibles on display!

Project Phoenix Kickstarter adds GSC Sylrianah figure
Kickstarter has become a magnet for gaming projects in the past year, and one of the latest to catch fire (and get fully funded in the process) is Project Phoenix. Raising over US$800,000 so far, and with about 36 hours to go, the PS4/Vita JRPG/real-time strategy hybrid has the likes of Nobuo Uematsu on board and has an impressive pitch.
But now, figure fans who can't throw around a couple grand get something, too: Good Smile has been announced as a partner and they're making a 1/8-scale figure of Princess Sylrianah, Pathfinder of Vervanna. You can see her artwork as designed by Gontaro (of Tenchu fame) in the gallery below, and she certainly looks pretty.
She is not coming cheap, though: Sylrianah is a bonus for Puppeteer tier supporters and above, and that tier is US$950. As an option, they're letting anyone who pledged below that level add Sylrianah to their pledge for ... US$250.They'll also have Paypal as an option once the Kickstarter ends, but damn, that is a lot of money for a 1/8-scale figure, considering they usually run for about one-third of that price. I'm wondering if it means Sylrianah is exclusive to supporting Project Phoenix (and won't be in stores at all later) ... which given GSC's past history of bundling Nendoroids and figmas with games, would not shock me at all.

About That "Malinky Robot" Press Kit from Sonny Liew
Besides the PINOCCHIO resin figure Sonny Liew had on show at his booth in Artist Alley for Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention, what caught my attention was a particular box with a "Malinky Robot" sticker on the cover, and finding out from sonny that it was actually a "Press Kit" released at the time meant to promote the graphic novel, but was on sale then (first thought in my mind: "Free Before, Now On Sale") … and upon opening the package, was immediately charmed by the contents inside, including a printed currency (seen in the book), a faux printed newspaper/newletter, a CD of images ("press kit", remember?), and of course, the graphic novel itself.
What actually 'sold' me finally purchasing the box, was the inclusion of a hand-made cigarette box "prop" based on the one in the book (which held trading cards of the characters, which i thought was AWESOME hahahaha) - i love details like that, the sucker than i am hahahaha
And now, the kit is mine - signed on the box, no less - and here are some snaps of it to share :)

How I Burst My Toy Budget At INSTINCTOYS @ #STGCC 2013
One of the first few folks I had met on the first day of Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention was QiSheng, who was generous enough to have me peek into his bag, to see the toys he bought from well known Japanese brand INSTINCTOY, and he had offered to remove from packaging for me to snap pictures of (seen above),
And I could not stay away and went back again the second day, and walked away with more figures, including the boxless "display sample" MUCKEY. INSTINCTOY had truly taken most of my toy-money for STGCC hahahahaha my biggest 'regret' was being unable to afford both the Rainbow inc and Baby inc, and eventually leaving the baby blue cutie behind … *man-sob*
And kudos to Indra, Wijaya and Eric of the #brotherhoodoftoys for the headsup about the black inc availability. So here are straight-up score snaps to share … so that I can somewhat lie to myself these were purchased for 'work' and not just for my own pleasures muahahahahahaha ;p

My New Needle Felted Art Dolls Collection
I have to tell you that I've fallen in love with needle felting art dolls. One of the reasons I love it is each doll seems to develop their own personality and no two dolls look alike.
No matter how much I try to create two identical dolls it's almost impossible. Perhaps it's because I'm creating the doll layer by layer. Perhaps it's just because the roving just has a mind of its own. LOL Whatever the reason - I LOVE it.
I have a few ideas - well, make that many, many ideas - as to what I'd like to try next. Some of it I have to wait for my sister's visit as she'll be showing me how to hand dye the roving. What fun that will be. And, talk about each item being totally unique. There's no chance you'll be able to hand dye several pieces of roving exactly the same way each time. I can hardly wait.
When my sister visits I'll have to hide all my needle felted art dolls. Knowing my sister she's gonna want all of them and will probably sneak them all into her car one night. I'll have to be on the watch for this. She's a clever baby sister. Sneaky, too..... LOL
In the meantime I've got lots of ideas. Of course, they're all written on little pieces of paper or whatever I could get my hands on at the time so I need to organize then a little better. That may take a little while as I've got a big stack of little pieces of paper. So much so that the stack as fallen over and created a little mess. Oh, well. At least it's a creative mess......
