Cu-Poche Tsukiko tries to spook us in her preview

Akiba Hobby's preview of the Cu-Poche Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko has arrived, giving us a little chance to look up close at her accessories and faces. I think the most interesting one is her oni mask, which does feature a little strap on the back so she can wear it. Presumably, you can have your other Cu-Poche wear it, too. She's also got Nekozou at her side and a meatbun to munch down on.

Tsukiko is arriving in December; anyone got her pre-ordered?

"Everybody's A Somebody" art show

I can't say enough how much fun it was to re-create plush versions of some of my favorite characters from Roger Hargreaves books on the "Mr. Men" and "Little Misses." I have such fond memories of these books from my childhood!

After flipping through all the books, I decided to make plush of the awesome Mr. Funny, and the nose-in-the-air Little Miss Splendid. In order to make them more than just an exact re-creation of the character, I used different textured and patterned fabrics to add some flair to their already larger than life personalities.

Meet Mr. Funny:

I used a super soft and "funny" checkered, lime green minky fabric for his body, and a swirly yellow flannel for his gloves, with a fun patterned red and green cotton for his shoes.  His hat is made from bright yellow felt, with a blue cotton band. He wouldn't be complete without the flower in his hat band, which is made from felt, with a green pipe cleaner as the "stem."

Here she is in all her snootiness; Little Mis Splendid:

I stayed true to her color scheme from the books, just added in some coral patterned and solid cottons to inject some more panache and style into her wardrobe, along with a more sophisticated blue for her hat band and purse closure. I think that she would approve. :) Her body and hair are made from yellow fleeces, which make her pretty cuddly. Although I'm not sure she's the cuddling type... ;)

If you are in the LA area, and a fan of these books, you won't want to miss this show! The iam8bit gallery  on Sunset will be transformed into scenes from Roger Hargreaves world, and there are all sorts of fun activities planned. I really wish that I could go to the opening! There is going to be some amazing art on display. :D The show opens on Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 and runs for a few weeks.

Tim Stephson launches IndieGoGo for Grim Creeper

Tim Stephson has put out quite a few resin pieces and customs in the past, but the Austin, Texas-based artist is dipping his toes into the designer vinyl world now with Grim Creeper. The piece is a spooky, 8-inch, glow in the dark figure with five points of articulation, and to help cover production costs, he's set up an IndieGoGo page. The donations will go toward covering costs for prototyping, steel molds, vinyl production and packaging ... or in other words, the production process itself. Collectibles aren't always cheap.

With a deadline of Sept. 22 and a goal of US$7,200, the IndieGoGo campaign has a ways to go. If you're interested, though, you can pre-order at the link provided in the last sentence. A total of 100 of these are available for US$75, and if the goal isn't met, everyone will get a refund.

There's no limit in Japan as to what they can put a logo on and get people to buy. Whether it's cup noodle Gundam kits or Evangelion razors people will buy pretty much anything emblazoned with their favorite characters on it. One Piece has had its own share crazy cross promotions over the years, the latest being a new line of PC eye glasses.

Designed to help reduce eye strain from looking at PC monitors for hours at a time JINS will be releasing nine different glasses representing all of the current members of the Straw Hat pirate crew. The glasses work by reducing potentially eye-damaging HEV light coming from brightly lit monitors. For ¥4,990 the glasses for Luffy, Chopper, Robin, and Brook reduce HEV light by 50% while the Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky glasses reduce it by 35%. For an additional ¥4,990 the lenses can be replaced with ones for even heavier PC use. Six web-limited colors are also being produced for the six original members: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper.

Ordering the glasses through JINS' website will get you a bonus Gum-Gum Fruit charm while ordering from their Rakuten or Amazon stores will get you a figure charm to go with each pair. Buying from a JINS store location will also get you a special bag. Each pair also comes with soft case. The dedicated collector can also buy a complete set with all 10 charms and a special case for ¥44,910. Each store will will have a different version of the case.

What do you think, are you a crazy enough fan to put a set of  eyewear on the shelf next to all of your One Piece figures?

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Lawn Decorations

Since Plants Vs. Zombies 2 has recently been given to the greedy, money-bearing masses, it felt only appropriate that I address its release with something relevant.  The Plants Vs. Zombies Lawn Decorations were the most relevant thing I could find, since I am currently working on one of my biggest projects yet: ticking off the neighborhood board by breaking their “lawn conformity” guidelines.  That, and sneaking out at night to put forks in everybody’s lawns.     Above, you can see a ...
