On June 21 at the Vex Arts Center was a great steampunk event called Steampunk LA. Over 50 art pieces were shown at this event, and one of those featured artists was Matt Perez, also known as Obscure. Now he has taken pieces from this show and is making them available for purchase.
His first piece is a collaboration with another art/designer toy customizer, DeeTen, called "Steampunk Willie". Inspired by the classic Mickey Mouse cartoon, Steamboat Willie, this custom is a 9 inch tall Disney Vinylmation. His next two pieces are called "Steampunk Madhatter and Oddfellow,"customized using Funko Pop! figures.
His fourth piece he titled "Herbal Vander Pelt and his Hermit-Copter 3000, model C3PO," or simply "HVP". HVP was made by customizing a Funko Star Wars C3PO bobble head. The last piece he has from the show is a 7 inch custom Hello Kitty vinyl titled, "The Love Granter Kitty."
This steampunk Hello Kitty has gears for eyes, a real bow, and a funnel device going from her mouth to her back. All of these pieces can be purchased either from Angry Koala Gear's online store, or by contacting Obscure directly by email at Matthew@angrykoalagear.com.

Fewture's got a little something for Dr. Slump fans: their series of PVC figures continues! New to the line are two small figures of secondary characters Suppa Man, the "superhero" with no powers or sense of justice; and neighborhood kid Kinoko Sarada. Fewture's done a good job capturing the original Akira Toriyama designs here, and while I'm not sure I'm inclined to pick them up, Dr. Slump super fans can sure be happy about them.
The two are around ¥3,500 at retail and should be releasing in November.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Mattel has filed a lawsuit against Donald Glut, the writer who worked on the initial He-Man and the Masters of the Universe comic book, over the franchise's copyrights. Additionally, there may be another live-action He-Man movie in the works.
The lawsuit allegedly stems from Glut coming forward to assert that he created the characters and is thus entitled to copyright ownership. Mattel has countered that for the past three decades it's been acknowledged that Glut's contributions fell under the work-for-hire doctrine. The comics being referred to are apparently the mini-comics which were included with the figures. Glut is allegedly acknowledged as having created the backstory for He-Man and other characters. This lawsuit would affirm Mattel's rights to the franchise.
While this case is bound to generate some interest, nothing is more interesting than the matter of timing for this issue given that a new film is allegedly in the works.
